Though the phrasing of the question was not great :-) I don't mean this in a bad way. Being too close to the steering wheel may be more dangerous. (?) Cars should therefore have adjustable pedals.

Female eyesight differs to men.

They can spot a sock out of place from a hundred yards, but have trouble spotting a moving target, or other vehicle or moving pedestrian.

This is genetic, and nothing to do with lesser or greater intelligence, more to do with the software of the brain.

In ancient times, men did the hunting, and so LEARNT skills which are very helpful in driving. These skills, over time have become like built in software in the brain.

Women, as the home makers learnt other skills and have superiority in other areas.

Hi, I am a woman and I know for a fact some don't even know how to adjust their seats or if they can be. Also most are very bad drivers as they only do short runs with the kiddies, and their men do the "important driving" Honestly, that is the truth, and the shorter legs, and the fact they won't wear specs ,and have a hundred butterflies fluttering about in their pretty heads as they drive to the hairdressers. I will not mention the Reverse you know what!!!!

As with Nati, my feet don't reach the pedals unless I'm up close and personal with the steering wheel.. Sucks when you're only 5'0... I need me a car with adjustable petals that way it's not so dangerous in case of an accident.

As women are generally shorter than men, and cars were designed by men for men. They have to have the seat closer to the steering wheel so that they can reach the pedals. You might try watching short men drive, you will see that they do the same.

Watch the cup races, and pay attention to the normal driving position of a stock car.
There is a reason for getting up on the wheel in a large race car, and women get up on the wheel for the same reason.

Well ..... its because we are used ti standing next to the sink or the ironing board, funny thing is as dangerous as it is men do not seem to mind putting themselves at risk when they need picking up from the pub and as for the driving position when men are doing these safety checks why do you always start with hair colour and then move to home grown air bags and how when men put on a flat cap they get even closer than us...... but th real reason is We ARE PUTTING ON OUR LIPPY lol

It's very often the more 'nervous' drivers that do this, male & female - but yes, mainly women, and mainly short ones.

Sitting bolt upright, with a death grip on the wheel makes you VERY aware that you are 'driving' and stops you from relaxing - at all! In an impact, the injuries can be horrific - not just from the impact, but also from the airbag literally blowing up in full contact with their face.

A mate of mine refers to them as 'window lickers'.

At the other end of the scale is the 'boy racer' with seat laid flat - arms at full stretch with more confidence in their driving that is sensible..... normally seen just before wrapping their corsa round a tree...

Well, it kind of breaks down like this, they sit so close to the wheel in a desperate bid try and take in whats going on in front of them. Womens brains dont have the capacity to deal with a throttle, a clutch, all those switches and dials and steer at the same time, their tiny brains are full of the more important things like how to iron a shirt and remembering to get me the right type of beer this time when i send her out shopping. Thats why women will pull out of a junction on you and crawl along at 20mph, you try putting any effort into driving and keeping up with the flow of traffic when you're trying to remember if you left the iron on and trying to remember if the car takes unleaded or diesel whilst applying mascara - its not easy for them.

Short Legs!! There is no other way around it. I know it is embarrassing. My husband scoots his seat all the way up until his entire body is touching the steering wheel to imitate me and it looks soooo funny! I understand your laughter, there's just no other options for a lot of us!

The cars were designed by men and don't allow the women to sit in a position that is both safe and comfortable.
