Neither. Go Coast Guards. It has the best quality of life. Better than the Air Force.

And, there better training and education opportunities than any other services.

Also, you can do everything in the Coast Guards as in the Navy and Air Force combined.

Wish I could make that decision again...

It really depends on what type of job you want and what you are expecting from the military. I was a Medic in the Air Force. Originally I wanted to travel, but I didn't get to do that. I hear the Navy travels much more. The AF is definitely much more laid back than other branches. My mother was in the Navy and she enjoyed it. When I was ready to join the military my uncle (marine), Dad (Army) and Mom all said AF was for me and they were right.

As far as the paperwork goes, please keep in mind that all branches have different requirements. I had a coworker who had his RN from overseas. The AF wouldn't recognize it so he was enlisted and did part time RN civilian. The ARMY would have recognized the RN. so don't give up on the AF simply because of the different standards. If this is going to be a 20 year commitment take your time and become very well informed of what you're getting into. OH and get a guaranteed job. Don't let the recruiters get you with that Open crap.

In Australia they say, the top go to the Airforce, the rejects go to the Navy and their rejects go to the Army.
I did 30 years in the RAAF, we were better looked after than the Navy or Army, and remember if you are not Officer material, you are mostly cannon fodder. We used to say, the Officers in the Army send the troops out to fight, The Navy fight together, the Airforce sends out the officers to fight. Plus look at the careers after you leave, what are the civilian equivelants. The USA looks after their troops and their families far better than any other Defence Force in the world. As far as the recruiting goes, go back and front them as to why the Navy can give you a clearance, then if you don't get a satisfactory answer ask to see the Senior member. Regards from down under

21 year retired Navy enlisted guy here. Good question.....two completely different branches of service. As far as training is concerned....both are top notch. If you go Navy....you will very likely be deployed at sea for extended tours. If that doesn't bother you....then Go Navy! If it bothers you...go Air Force.

No matter what....try your best to get a guaranteed job. That's harder to do in the Air Force, but it can be done.

in korea every year there is an excercise called team spirit. in whitch units mostly from hawihii come from. the marines that come over sleep on the ground, cold wet or what ever. the army has big canvas tents with small cots in the woods. the navy is off shore doing there 4 hour watches 24 hours a day, bullshit. the air force is put up in hotels downtown with beds, heat, bars and women. dont forget the us coast guard, the best of all. the military is the easiest job you will ever have, as long as noone is shooting at you. good luck. retired uscg

IF the Air Force guy is jacking you around then GO HIGHER up, remember he has a boss...my sons recruiter [the first one] was a complete prat and in fact forged papers once we had left the office dozy idiot forgot I had got copies of EVERYTHING.........

IF the Navy can sort it out in one day I would [a] be a bit wary of that [b] ask them HOW they did it.

IF you are not happy with the service you are getting from a recruiter go elsewhere and speak to someone higher...........

I would honestly push you towards te Air Force..husband is just getting out of Navy after 21 years and hmmmmmmm we had a GREAT time etc etc BUT son is in the Air Force and it constantly amazes us both just how much is offered to them as opposed to the Navy guys..........

Good luck in either pick.........but dont sign for ANYTHING for 20 years..........you will lose out on your sign on bonuses lol lol and your re enlistment bonuses.

I was in the Marines myself
spent a lot of years shipboard with Navy types
also spent quite a few with the Air force..
if I had to do it all over again I'd go Air force
they eat better and sleep regular.

but better still when your want to try a diffrent job for a while it's not that big a deal to the AF they just smile and retrain you... thats a major plus

Smart mouthed answer... If you join you can not be guaranteed that you will live on them for 20 years, you may get killed.

Honest answer: If I were to join a military group (I did) it would be Air Force. Admittedly I did not last through boot camp due to something really bad that happened that should not have, Air Force would be the way for me to go.

It maybe that the Navy was able to answer sooner because less people are applying to them so they have less work. Or maybe they had a connection from a prior question.

Who knows?

Be safe!

Just to let you know, I counsel teens interested in the military all of the time. If you really need a good opinion, email me!

Start with these questions: What do you want to do? This will determine which service is best for you. Are you interested in officers or enlisted? what is most important to you... opportunity for action or a future for your family and your education?
