The drivers are doing a job, I have no problem with a person doing their job. BUT, the 18 wheelers are a huge nuisance. I suspect a great many of the road fatalities are due to them. This is what happens when the rail systems are dismantled. If we had the trains back, there would be less need for 18 wheelers and therefore less of them on the road. There should be more trains and/or seperate lanes or roads for 18 wheelers to be seperated from regular passenger car/truck/van travelers.

I respect the 18 wheeler driver especially when he's paid crap and spends most of his time far away from home only to be cut off by a sorority girl blabbing about Jon Meyer on her cell phone.
I have no respect for the outlaw truckers (I did like Smokey and the Bandit) who drive 90 MPH without respect for anyone or anything. I usually smoke them going 100 and watch them slow down to sensible speed (I do that as well).
If I were in charge of trucking - I would pay them well and make them rest well - no use falling asleep at the wheel for Wal-Mart.

Stop.
Look around your room.
Every thing you see was in a large 18 wheeler at some time in the past. The things you wish to buy in the future will be delivered to the stores you shop in by truck as well.

How would you deliver goods across America? Trains certainly don't drive up to the stores, and how long do they take? If people had to drive any big truck or even a small truck with a trailer, they'd see what a bunch of idiots are out there in the cars.
Keep on truckin'

Well, they move the majority of products in this country. Have you ever noticed how quickly store shelves go bare when the drivers go on strike? Do you have a recommendation for an alternative?

They're necessary if you want the products they bring to the stores you buy food and clothing from. If you grow your own food and make your own clothes then you probably don't need them at all.
