The first thing is to STOP CLEANING HIS ROOM! He knows you are going to do it when you've had enough of the eye sore....the next thing to do is..if you just cannot control yourself, to at least tidy it....spell out things in it...like CLEAN YOUR ROOM NOW, with all the toys and junk on the floor or bed...and the last thing is to stick to it!!! It may take 3 weekends of the month to make him do it, but hold on! He's not doing anything for as long as it takes until he's cleaned it and then kept it that way! This behavior started a long time ago, so you really have no one to blame but you, but I swear, it will work...I have one who even got her room taken away from her...it hasn't been messy since!!! I asked if she thought that I was kidding when I'd take her room away and she said, well, I didn't really think you'd do it!!! 2 weeks no room...kids need to learn to respect you and them and their stuff. Good luck!

Put him up for adoption.

Just kidding.

Set down rules on a roster of things expected every day, every week and every month. When he keeps up with it he will be rewarded, but if he falls back, the task he messed up on will be added to the next day's duties.

Punishment and reward. He needs to know what it takes to run a household. When he gets a place of his own, he'll look back and appreciate the time and effort you took to teach him how to cook, sew, do laundry.

Get his dad to back you up! A male has strong influence.

Remember the elephant story? They seperated the young elephants from the adults. In due time, the young males became violent because they were not taught socialization from the elder elephants. The young males went as far as to kill several rhinos in the park. The rangers brought the older males back, and the rampages ceased. Males are needed in all societies, human and animal.

clean itout and get rid of everything until he learns it and tell him when he begs for a new toy NO, he wont pick up after hisself.....or act like you threw everything away and then after 2 or 3 mos bring it back out slowly and he will be more appreciative

oh...ur like me...we keep buying them toys......we throw away just to buy more....we need to be strong and stop buying so much...so they have no mess to make....just got a huge bin...HUGE..and we are going to give toys away and try to eliminate.....the mess.......and hopefully we can keep a cleaner room....the worse is when other kids play and help make a bigger mess...when company comes over with children close the door and send them out to play.....if they can't pick up....cause it is aggravating.....but i get joy in watching my boys have fun......so as long as were buying we'll always have the mess and especially when we do it for them....the cleaning

Eliminate the things that make a mess. Only let him have a bed and clothes. And if he gripes, let him have ONE toy. Unless he gets his act together.

Give him a reward every time he cleans up a little. Then he will want to clean.
