Because of its role as the southern border of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, the Ohio River is famous as a large part of the border that divided free states and slave states in the years before the Civil War. As depicted in several novels by Harriet Beecher Stowe and Toni Morrison, the Ohio River was the barrier which, by crossing by boat or 'on ice floes', slaves were freed. Today, the Ohio River generally separates Midwestern and Great Lakes states from Southern border states.

Rather than asking about rivers, you need to concentrate on your English. Specifically, the difference between "its" and "it's". One thing you can absolutely take to the bank, is that over the course of your life, no one will care about the name of a river, but assuredly someone will notice your poor English, and it WILL cost you a job or a raise one day, perhaps many days.
It's (with the apostrophe) is a contraction meaning "it is." It is NOT the same as the possessive pronoun "its."
Your question reads like this: How did the Ohio River get it is name?" Sounds stupid, doesn't it?
