Also if you know a good product to put in your hair after you shampoo to help get it smooth and straight when blowdrying.

I've got the perfect one for you (I use it too)!
Vo5 "Make it Straight!" gel is great. Just work a little bit through your hair while it's still damp after a shower, and it smooths your hair and more importantly, protects it from damaging straightening or blow drying.
Good luck =)

I usually just wash my hair with a good shampoo and a good deep conditioner. Then I let my hair air dry in a wrap. U can also use a hair dryer or put hair dryer if u must. There are 2 products I know of for hair protection by TRESemme' and VO5 has a hair serum to use for this. Once u do this if its the night before, put a silk/satin scarf on your head to protect hair.

Alterna straightening balm is awsome for putting in before you blow dry. It's humidity resistant and it makes your hair feel really soft. Also. when you are flat ironing, you can get heat protectant sprays. Good ones are Kenra thermal styling spray or redkin spray starch. If your hair is naturally really dry you can use Graham Webbs heat response soft finish spray. It has oils in it that make your hair feel normal.
