In the mid 80's & I used to work in at a florist on base (my hubby of 27 years is retired U.S. Army)...anyways a soldier came in w/ an order for a dozen red roses w/ ONE extra WHITE rose to be placed among the red ones in the vase 13 roses total).
Having never heard this request before I asked if there was any special meaning.
He replied..."That question was exactly what he was hoping his girlfriend would ask".
He planned to reply to her..."That SHE was like the single white rose among all of those other plain, ordinary red ones"...that she stood out in a crowd of other females.
"Make it real nice", he said going out the door.
His thoughtfulness really made me put my heart into it while designing the arrangement.
He picked the order up that afternoon, grinning from ear to ear.
Imagine MY surprise when I got home that afternoon & sitting on the kitchen counter was the bouquet of flowers.
My hubby had had one of the other men in his platoon place the order for ME so I wouldn't know it.
How sweet is that?
Needless to say that is exactly why I have kept my hubby for 27 years. :o)
It was no special occasion...just because!

Candles, Candles, Candles! Also go buy some soft pink light bulbs talk about a romantic glow, not to mention it makes everyone look better! also select colors that are soft and warm like; dusty rose, light pink, browns, oranges, sage greens, and reds for throw pillows, & blankets. ANd then drapped over the couch or chairs and 3 or 4 flowers per vase scattered around the house w/ a few candles by it. also cinnamin is a good spicey scent that is suppose to enhance the mood. Also a nice body massage with oil. I suggest bath and body works Jasmine Vanilla "Sensuality" soothing massage oil, make sure you warm it up and try the oil on the inside of your wrist first before you put it on her body. also one of those nice fluffy robes from Victoria's Secrets would be a nice gift! Good luck!!

get some sushi to go from a sushi bar along with some side dishes like miso soup, seaweed salad, or tempura shrimps. Also get a bottle of sake (japanese wine) and a dessert from the sushi restaurant.
If she isnt into sushi, get some french cheeses (such as brie, goat cheese, blue, swiss, etc), some baguette or a thick crust country bread, some good wine or champaign, and french pastries or strawberries and chocolate syrup.
There is a company called Dream Dinners ( http://www.dreamdinners.com/ ) where you can go and cook great meals, without having to cut veggies or clean up after. If they arent in your area, there are other companies that offer similar services.
Decorate the house with candles, and get her a HUGE bouquet of roses. Have some massage oil by the bed and use it. She would probably enjoy a nice bubble bath with candlelight. You can find natural sea sponges at health food stores, they are great to wash yourself, and look romantic.Have the house museum clean (hire a cleaning lady if you have to!)

Ok, first you clean up the entire place, air it and make it smell fresh. And I mean CLEAN, especially the toilet, bathroom and kitchen. Also, piles of paper and laundry out of sight. Got some plants in the house? Make em look well taken care off and put some fresh flowers on your table. That's a good start.
Enlarge a good picture of her, put it in a nice frame and hang/put it prominently in the living room. That's were you place a colored envelope with a nice card inside. And ofcourse the card says that you're sooooo happy that she came home save and sound.
Nothing wrong about good old fashioned candles and an ice bucket containing a bottle of her favorite drink......and soft music playing........
Oh, and have a nice bath, clip your nails, wear a real nice shirt and al that stuff........

Above all, make sure the place is clean. Candles are a nice touch but it would be even better if you make sure the place is stocked with her favorites. If she likes chocolate, make sure there are little candy dishes full all over the house. If she likes flowers, have a few vases set up here and there. Get her favorite colors all over the place. Pillows, throw blankets, etc.
She will think you are so thoughtful.

Treat her like a Queen. Hand and foot. At least a week or two. Give her a bell to summon you. Keep a clean house, do laundry and dishes. Buy her a card. That's the least you can do. No matter what job she does, she worked hard.
