Ah, the musical generation gap. Have you ever wondered if ancient Roman or Greek parents fought with their children over music? My advice would be to try and get him to listen to your music with you. Explain to him what it is that you like about the music. I've discovered that ignorance is often the reason people don't like something. I'm not saying your father is ignorant, only that perhaps he doesn't understand your kind of music. Ask him why he doesn't like your music, and listen with an open mind to his answer. Maybe there is a good reason he doesn't like it. Ultimately, you can't make someone like or dislike something, especially music. Music is a very emotional form of expression, and personally, if I can't "feel" it, I usually don't like it. Hope this helps!

My son and I had the same problem. He likes heavy metal. I started listening when he played the more quiet songs on the cd's. Really scarry part; I started to learn the lyrics and the name of the bands.
Kids at the drive thru in McDonalds freak out when I pull up listening to one of my son's cd's. And worse, I am singing to the song.

Our house is not a home, home, home

The circle of trust is broken! I don't care if you hate me, etc.

I just cannot do the screaching voices. I am 54.

Haha, I'm still working on that one too! What I'm doing is just turning my music up really loud so that I know he hears it. Lol the other day, I turned on one of my favorite songs and my dad was singing to it! I guess all I have to say is good luck, lol

You can't. My dad never did like my music and till this day he still doesn't. I always liked some of my dads music too.

it depends on a lot on the kind of person your dad is related to music, what kinds of music he likes, and what kind of music you like. You can't assume that older people don't like your style of music. I like many of the new bands, and other people my age don't like them. It depends on what standards that he has for music. Some people aren't going to change no matter what. My Mother in law likes the very old country music, and she will never change, she won't like things I like and that's it. end of discussion. I won't try. A lot also has to do with how eclectic his tastes are. Some people young and old are narrow in their tastes. Those people will not adjust to new music easily, whereas people like me who like many varied styles will like new groups more easily. And a lot has to do with their knowledge of music and how much music they are familiar with. A person who has a fairly limited knowledge of music will probably be harder to convince than someone with a wide range of tastes., - If I were to suggest a method for doing this, I would start with the genre that he likes and see if he will expand to listening to more music within that genre, THEN try to see if he can expand to other similar genre's and then once that works, then see if he will listen to your music. I hope this helps

If you want your dad to like your music then listen to his with him.Thats how my daughter got me to like her music. I know she hated listening to it but she pretended to like it so I did the same & found out that her music isn't that bad.

As a parent myself, i choose not to like the music that my son likes and he chooses not to like the music i like too. But also as a parent, i allow my son the freed om to listen to what he wants to (as long as its not too loud!!) Its called allowing them to become their own person and making their own choices in life!!!!!!!
