Okay since you asked, here is your answer and only read this if you have an open heart. Get a seat because you'll be a little while. Here goes...
Yes that is true. Think of this point: If a person is dead (and we all know that in death you can't feel nothing because if you did autopsies and embalming would be painful, right?)
So then what sense does it make that you would all of a sudden feel yourself being burned forever if you're dead?
Think of this point too: When you burn a sheet of paper what happens to it? It burns and then when it is totally consumed, it turns to ashes and stops burning. It does not burn forever so it wouldn't make sense that even if there was a burning hell, a person would last down there forever.
Third point: Some people will argue that burning hell is in the Bible. But it is not. This is why. The word "Sheol" is a hebrew word that is used in the Old Testament or hebrew scriptures that means "common grave". And the word for "common grave" in the New Testament is "hades". You've probably heard of "hades" more often. Again, hades mean "common grave" in Greek and "Sheol" means the same in Hebrew. So when the bible says that people will go to "sheol" or "hades" they are just going to the grave not to burn somewhere.
Last point: Think of this too: Some people may say that your spirit leaves your body and burns. But that is just as foolish because spirits cant feel anything. Wouldn't a spirit be able to walk through a fire not burn in it. So we dont have spirits either thay leave our body when we die.
Well I'm done for now but if you're sincere about learning what really happens just hit me up on an email, I'll be more than happy to tell you.

Luke chapter 16 is a parable about the Pharisees losing their favored position.
It is not a picture of 'hell'.
Ez 18:4 states that the soul dies.
Matt 10:28 says the soul can be destroyed.
In 1611 when they put potatoes in hell, they didn't cook them, they place them in a cool dark place to keep them fresh.
In Revelation Hell is done away with along with death.
Jesus liken death to sleep. (They put people under to operate on them so they don't feel pain.)
Eccl 9:5, 10 show the dead know nothing and are no longer conscientious.
When Adam sinned he returned to the dust.
When we die we are buried and return to the dust, our hope is in a resurrection.
Immortality is a reward.
Satan said if you disobey God you will not die.
this is way most modern bibles use the greek word hades, to mean the grave, because of the confusion the word hell has created.

Some denominations believe that Hell = eternal death (Jehovah's Witnesses for one). But early Christians (up through the Middle Ages anyway) believed Hell was a cold, dismal place (not hot) because it was far from God's love.
In Dante's "Divine Comedy" (14th Century), Dante visits Hell, and Satan is frozen in a vast lake at the center of the earth.

Hell is separation from God for eternity... and if you have a personal relationship with Him, then you know how horrible that could be... but the bible says a lot about the pit of fire and whatnot... so, yeah, I think that it really is a fiery place. But, hey, there is a way out.. all you have to do it take it.
"There are a million roads that get you into Hell, but not one to get you out." (So stay out in the first place)

You can define "hell" any way you want to, since there's no evidence of any kind that any such place exists, and all of the concepts of hell taught by religions are also just made up...so go ahead and decide what hell is to you, whatever you come up with will be just as valid as anybody's else's definition :)
When you die, you die. That's it, game over. There's never been a single proof that there's anything after that. So make the most of the life you have, live every day to the fullest, and don't spend your life worrying about what's going to happen afterwards...'cause nothing is going to happen afterwards, this is the only life you've got.

Hell is a very real place and it is a place filled with fire and brimstone! It is not a place you want to go! In the Bible it explains hell when it talks about the rich man and Lazarus! All the rich man wanted after going to hell was for Lazarus to dip his finger in water and give him one drop because of the pain and suffering! There is only one way to get out of going to hell and that is by accepting Jesus into your heart! It is easy, all you have to do is now that we are all sinners and ask Jesus to come into your heart and save you! It is a free gift and is easy to accept!

Technically, your correct. The Hebrew and Greek words that are translated as "hell" do mean "grave."
But do not overlook the final judgment of Revelation 20:11-15 where death and hell are cast into the lake of fire.
Generally, this lake of fire is what most people think of when they think of the burning fires of hell.

Jesus Christ warned about hell more than He talked about heaven, so I would conclude that ending up in hell is a terrible thing. Jesus never lies, so since He gave us so many warnings, I believe it is a terrible place and I don't want to go there. I don't care whether it is fiery or freezing, I don't want to go there. (The Bible calls it a burning lake of fire.) I want to wear Jesus's robe of Righteousness and go to heaven.

Certainly, many people believe many things about the existance and nature of hell.
If the teachings of Jesus Christ hold any weight for you, He clearly taught of a hell that included terrible suffering:
Luke 16:19-31
"There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
"The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'
"But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'
"He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'
"Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.'
" 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'
"He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "

I know these arent very good examples but thats what I think hell is
