It began between North and South Korea. However, the U.S. and two other countries supplied arms to the South. It was termed a "police action" when the U.S. went to Korea to get around having Congress approve going into war. It is officially still an open conflict.

The Chinese are the greatest finger pointers in the world. It's always the other guy who's at fault, with them. They're still bitter over the humiliation during the Chosin Reservoir battle in 1950, when the 1st Marine Division of about 12,000 was surrounded by about 75,000 Chinese. The Marines were able to fight their way out of this encirclement at an astronomical cost in casualties to the Chi-coms, 25,000 dead, with another 25,000 wounded or severely frostbitten.

This battle cost the Chi-coms dearly ! The Marines didn't claim victory for this engagement, but it was one helluva fight, one the Chinese suffered dearly for because it was their first test under fire, against the US.
