I absolutely support curfews. A lot of the crimes that I have to deal with involving intoxication and property damage are caused by juveniles. More and more in the last couple of years, when dealing with juveniles and their parents, I have noticed one glaringly obvious problem. Way too many parents are trying to be their children's friend instead of their parent. They are so afraid to make any rules, in fear that their kids won't like them. There needs to be curfew laws for parents to have a legal standing to fall back on when attempting to make any rules for their teenagers. I wish I had a nickel for every parent that has said to me, "Well, there isn't a curfew, so how can I tell my child that he/she has to come home? If the Police think it's ok, then I can't tell them they need to come home." They seem so clueless that they should be making the rules. Our city had a curfew until about 3 years ago. When the curfew was still in effect, there was still juvenile crime, but far less. Kids know that there is no curfew, and can get away with a lot more. Thanks to the ACLU for suing my state and having it revoked.

Curfews are a good way to keep immature kids out of trouble. A minor has no business being out late at night (unless for work or other reasonable exuse). Most of the time the cops either take a minor the find out after curfew home or call their parents to them up. I remember I got pulled over for speeding around 11:00 on a Friday night when I was 16 or 17. I was on my way home from a friend's house anyway, so the cop just gave me a warning and told me to go straight home. I learned my lesson.
