i have three(well we gave one away already, so two) two and a half to three month old mixed chihuahua puppies. They can eat soft food, like moist kibble, canned dog food, tender beef or doggy gravy, but not really dry kibble. The problem is that they are still nursing from their mother and won't leave her alone. They leave red slightly bleeding bumps on the nipples, which means they are biting too hard or maybe the milk is sour. Well im not sure if it's normal for my puppies to still be breast feeding, can you help me and if you can reccomend good puppie chow, snacks, etc.? Also what can I do if it isn't normal? Seperate them? Because they won't eat if they don't have their mommy's milk. On the 18th they will be 3 months old. Also is it bad if I let them have human food like thin turkey slices, ham, weiners, cow meat, pork, etc.? thanx for your help! :)

Puppies are old enough to be seperated from their mother at age 8 weeks, but they should be weaned slowly off their mother's milk. Make sure they're all eating moist food and drinking water first. Allow the mother to nurse them for a little bit for a day or two, then remove her from the puppies. I would stick to moist dog food or puppy chow instead of people food. It's designed to provide the nutrients dogs need.

Why on earth do you have a 1 month old pup? This puppy should be with its mother and litter mates till at the earliest 8 weeks. If you can't even afford puppy milk how are you going to afford the vaccinations? Good quality food? Vet bills? General supplies? I wouldn't suggest giving this dog back to someone that let a pup go at a month old but you certainly need to give him/her up to a shelter that can find an experienced foster carer. You certainly can't give a puppy cows milk as dogs are lactose intolerant, goats milk would be the second alternative from puppy formula. This puppy is likely to never have been wormed too which is very dangerous.

Responsible Breeding Steps
19 - Wean Puppies from their Mother
Most puppies begin the weaning process at about three weeks of age. You can start them off by offering a pan of formula in place of their mother's milk. Next, replace the formula with a combination of thin cereal and formula. Hand-fed puppies may be removed from the bottle, and meat or high quality canned dog food may be offered in addition to the cereal/formula mixture.
At five weeks, delete the cereal and replace the formula with a solution of equal parts evaporated milk and water. A high-quality dry puppy food can be mixed into the meat and canned food.
To avoid digestive upsets, be sure to introduce all changes in food or feeding schedules gradually.

By the time the puppies are around 8 weeks of age, they should be eating solid food and no longer nursing. At this tender age, pups are ready for their new homes and life without their mother

Yeah, okay, usually you should not take a puppy from mom for at least 6-8 weeks. Just give it a couple more weeks, mom will start cutting little ones off. Just keep mom active and give her a personal space around dinner time. I don't think you will have to keep them seperate, just long enough for them to get fed on good food, puppy chow, and they will start to leave her alone.

Keep them away from their poor mother starting right now!! Those teeth hurt and your mom needs to be kept away from them. They should have been weaned by 6 weeks. Make sure they have water available at all times, and feed them with good quality puppy food (not canned) 3 times per day. At this age, it's also not a great idea to be feeding them human food, especially not wieners, they need a balanced diet from their puppy food.

They will nurse as long as mama will let them. Seperate them. They will eat when hungry. Don't give them table food because them they will not eat their dog food. Never give processed food like ham, turkey and hot dogs. The fat and salt content is very bad for them.

they'll probably nurse for as long as the mama will let them. Just start feeding them puppy food, she won't want to feed them anymore. Don't think that they won't eat, when they get hungry, they will. processed meat is not good for dogs. Please, just feed them dog food. please They can eat puppy food, it won't hurt their teeth. If they have teeth they will eat. they just look like they don't know what they are doing for a little while, but they'll get it quick. please don't feed them human food. please
