Your probably not gonna listen to me but you have to remember...You are the only one who can control your mind...Im sure you come from a backround that wasn't the best...Doctors told me that Im bi polar...but I realized that I could control myself if I changed my thoughts...I was letting the pressures of life get to me and I was making excuses for my past...Im not saying thats whats wrong with you but a little counseling helped me alot...and self realization helped too.

Being bipolar is not the end of the world even though the extreeme highs and lows can make one feel that way.

You got on the interent to say how scared you were of something you don't even know is true, so please, go do some research. I was in my late 40's when the doctor told me "I don't think you are ADHD, I think you are bipolar'. Well, I freaked out... went home and started doing some research on the interent.

I went back to the doctor about a month later and said 'ok, if I am bipolar, what can I do?. He put me on a $10 a month medication,
I took it for over two years, went off of it about 3 months ago, and do fine. I also learned to recognize when I was sinking or rising, so to speak, and got a grip.

I don't think It's being bipolar that scares you as much as not knowing..... go research. Most generally it's genetic and controllable and not contagious. It DOES NOT MAKE YOU A FREAK!

Also, unfortunately, bipolar seems to be the big buzz word right now, so please don't label yourself. You are in college? How much stress are you under? Go do some research and give yourself a break.

Well, if you party often or used to, your problem is most likely because of that. College is tuff and so are the responsibilities that come with it. Get into therapy first. Talk about your sleeping and eating habits, what your work schedule is like and how often you "let loose". Break your life down and sort it out before you go jumping to conclusions. Believe me, you do not want to be misdiagnosed. It took 20 some years before I found out I was. I missed out on a college life, but now I have a life where I am happy and healthy and no label to hold me down anymore!

It will be hard to seek help,so my suggestions and advice is for now to ring up any helplines that are out there and experienced with this disorder, tell them exaclty what youve said here.Ask them questions and they will support you to taking your first step.By seeing a doctor or maybe a psychiatrist. It would be hard, but you have to pull yourself together and get on top of it.

My first step was to figure out a way to get help.I felt anxious/nervous and panicky. So first step i took was the whitepages or yellowpages.numbers that you can call,I did this i rang up a couple of them just sorted out a way to get on top of it.They were very helpful. The next day i rang the doctors and booked an appointment. My appointment was two days later.Went in depressed/anxious/nervous/panicky,everyone will mental illnesses do,but you have to go in fear or emotionally depressed.Sorry if this sounds hard, but out of all of this you will feel like youve accomplished something. You will soon get on top of it and feel better in the long run.

I'm not sure about America, but in Australia we ahve bi-polar help lines. Try ringing one of these and seek the advise from specially trained counsellors. Also, see your doctor. He can prescribe you with the medication to help get your life back on track.

The first thing you do is get yourself to see a doctor. There are specific medications that really do help, if this is indeed what is wrong. I wish you the best.
