Recently I lost most of the hearing in my left ear. I also have severe pain from time to time deep in my ear also. I went to the doctor and he claimed I do not have an ear infection. When I was younger I had several surgeries on that ear. There is also some draining in that ear from time to time, too. My doctor doesn't know what's wrong, so he told me to try an antihistamine, which is not helping at all. Any clues to what's wrong????

Seems like it is about time to find another doctor. If you had mentioned what the previous surgeries were for, you may have received a more educated guess.

Sounds like an ear infection to me. Try pressing on the lymph nodes under your chin/neck area and see if that relieves anything.
