My mother was prescribed this (25mg) for Anxiety. She is an alcoholic.(a case of beer daily) Her doctor is well aware that she is an alcoholic. This medicine makes her extremely drowsy. She acts like she's wasted. (not because she drinks beer--she's been an alcoholic for 30 years--the beer just keeps her steady all day-not totally drunk) But when she takes this its like she's been drinking liqour all day long or something. Not to mention she isnt herself. She feels fine one minute then the next-she's throwing a huge fit. She gets mad at everyone--in her personal life or with people in public. What's up with this? Today was a horrible day--she went to her Dr. and said she is tired of life, etc. and the Dr. prescribed her Prozac!! Both of these meds say you should NOT drink alcohol while taking them. I plan on calling her Dr tomorrow to share all of this with her--but i just want to hear from other people. What was your experience???

I have been on both drugs. Definitely she should not take Librium with alcohol! It's a very, very bad combination. If she just took Prozac she might drink less...you should speak with her doctor and make sure s/he knows that she is drinking daily. S/he would probably stop the Librium. Also, Librium is fairly addictive especially to those with addictive personalities such as your mother has. I have had experience with all of the above. I am currently on maintenance dose of ProZac, have not had a drink for years and will never, never take Librium again. Your mother is fortunate that you are concerned.

Very dangerous to mix. My brother killed himself because of doing liquor and pills.
