If your computer is near you stereo receiver you simply need an audio Y cable (one red and one white wire on one side and one black on the other) Plug the black into your normal speaker output on the computer and the others into your receiver and there ya go.

Yes, but you will need an amplifier to provide the power to the speakers since there would not be enough power coming from the computer (this is why PC speakers require an AC adapter or batteries). The best way to hook your PC to real speakers would be to get a 1/8" stereo mini plug to dual-RCA adapter cord (you can get these at RadioShack) which would allow you to connect your PC to any stereo amplifier with the red & white (right and left) RCA inputs.

A WORD OF CAUTION. If you are using an old style CRT, make very certain that the speakers are magnetically shielded. If you put unshielded speakers near a CRT, severe picture distotion or some other damage could result. I know from experience. With the newer LCD displays, I am not aware of them being sensitive to unshielded speakers.

I have my computer hooked to my stereo. I just used an audio cable with a red and white on one end, and a headphone jack on the other end... just plug it in to where ever your speakers go (usually the green jack on the back of the tower)
