1stly, there is no such thing a teacups. You need to be aware that's just an advertising term used by non-reputable & backyard breeders to get more money for the runts in the litters. Dogs that are undersized are prone to more health problems so they'll cost you an arm and a leg to buy & then keep costing you to keep healthy, often ending in heartbreak because they die very young.
The good thing is that you want to rescue! YAAAY! So just call up the local shelters around your area. If you don't want a specific breed but are just after a very small dog, the better your chances are. I bet you can add your name to a list so that if they get small dogs in that are suitable, they can call you in to see them.
Often, breeders can sell off retired dogs at a very good price once they are too old to use for breeding & have retired from the showring as well. They usually come desexed & already housebroken. Plus you'll know the dog's background & such. Not to mention, the puppy stages of tearing up furniture, chewing your shoes, peeing on your carpet will already have been dealt with.
Check the classifieds in the papers! Often, elderly people pass away & leave small dogs behind...you could provide one of those with a great home. Sometimes people move overseas & can't take their dogs with them...the possibilities are endless!
Whatever you do, make sure you're 110% sure of the dog you are going to adopt. It's a lifelong commitment. Small dogs especially have a longer life expectancy. And read up & be aware of the special care small breeds require. They are more prone to oral/dental problems. If not socialized properly, can be very cowardly & timid, snappy & aggressive. Not to mention, they are indoor dogs that thrive on companionship so if you will be at work all day on most days, perhaps a dog isn't the right pet for you, or if you can afford it, get 2 to keep each other company.
Good luck & keep us informed! (",)

I tried buying a dog from puppyfind. This lady sent me a total mutt!
I was ripped off $1000 and still havent seen a penny of my money. Unless you touch and see the dog with your own eyes... DO NOT BUY ONLINE! whatever problems you have, they'll say SOL. you cant even sue them in small claims if they're located out of town. The website didnt post any negative reviews on the seller coz they conveniently delete them at sellers request!! So do your resaerch online about the type of dog breed, habit, etc. but I would never recommend buying an animal online.

Go to http://www.akc.org and look up the breeds in the "toy" group. These are all small dogs (hence the name). You can learn about the different breeds in the group and find links to breed specific rescues for whatever type of dog you decide you are interested in.
