By not focusing on just one thing.
By not obsessing over anything
By moving along and not dwelling on problems.
By having a good social life.
By having many good friends and by being one.
By being busy doing things you love to do.
By being busy accomplishing things you need to do.
By praying
By laughing
By having a good cry now and then, even at a sad movie
By loving and being loved.

What makes you happy? What are your obligations? How do you balance both of those?

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all things shall be added to you. God says for us to, in all things, commit our ways to Him and He shall order our steps.

This is no idle promise. In the ten years that I have been diligently studying the bible, and growing closer to the Lord in word, deed and prayer, God has ordered my life beautifully. It is full of peace, assurance, joy and wisdom.

God bless you!

Great question! I've found living in balance to be one of the most important things in my life.

First of all, we often have areas in our lives that need more attention, because we deny that they're there or that they're important. For two examples, I've known people who were great with logic and reason (sort of like Spock :) ), but bad with their emotions. I've also known people who were good with their emotions but bad with reason. In both cases, these people refused to admit that it was a problem and refused to do the work necessary to bring themselves into balance. So, the first step, I think, is for you to make a list of things to balance. In addition to reason/emotions, I'd add balancing the mundane need-to-dos with the things you're passionate about, planning everything to a fault with giving into the madness of the universe, etc.

Once you know WHAT you want to balance out, it takes work. Avoid beating yourself up over it if you have trouble. Instead, be positive, acknowledge when you're out of balance and keep telling yourself you'll try to emprove. But, in my experience, balance doesn't just come from thinking about it. You have to DO things that allow you to explore different sides of life. Through exploring life's opposites, we come into balance. For example, if you never plan anything out, force yourself to plan things out see what that's like. On the other hand, if you've never experienced a really crazy party, experience one (but do so safely, with designated drivers, use of condoms if you have sex, taking care that you're partying with people you trust and all that sort of good stuff).

Sometimes we have to go out of balance in directions that we're not used to in order to come back into balance later. (But, be safe and use common sense.) And... remember to explore the things that aren't all that fun (like cleaning house, if you're messy) as well as things that are fun (like having parties). If you only do the fun stuff, you're cheating yourself.

It's useful to try to be at least mediocre at the things you're bad at. I used to be terrible at sports and had a bad attitude about sports because of it. But, when I worked at it, I became not half bad. This helped me do things like participate in sports activities with my friends and it was only then that I realized that doing so was valuable for the purposes of social interaction. Being mediocre instead of bad at something makes all the difference in the world. And... it's OKAY to have areas of weakness. The important thing is that we give the things we're weak in our college try.

Finally, remember that balance isn't always a matter of pure 50/50. Sometimes it's more like standing on a ship that's rocking in the waves. Sometimes balance is more about being in the place on the ship that keeps you from going overboard than about standing fixed in the center.
