Royce Gracie would win. Sure Bruce was fast but eventually Royce would take him down and it's all over from there.

I don't understand why people think that Bruce Lee is some sort of god that can never be defeated. ATTENTION PEOPLE!!!!!! no one (or very few) has ever seen Bruce Lee actually fight. All they know are from movies let me say that again MOVIES!!! Bruce Lee would get his A S S handed to him if he fought in the UFC or Pride now days even if he was in his prime.

well what kinda of a fight. Bruce Lee focus on fighting was being tenicall but ending fight quickly as possible. If you seen some of his movies you would understand what he would do to certain styles. I imagine he has done these moves before because back in hong kong he was in a gang constantly fighting other martial art gangs. For judo, wrestlers, and grapples bruce lee simply break their fingers and watch as they try to grab him again. And if they manged to make a fist he would just break their limbs and joints because not matter how hard your train everyone still has same weakness. For strikers he was always faster, smarter and had amazing power behind his first and legs. It was recorded that bruce lee knocked a guy in the air off his feet who weigh over 100 lbs more than bruce lee. At the time He weighed 195 lbs. Bruce Lee specialized in ending fights in seconds and not letting them drag on. So I imagine that their are very few people that could hold their own against him.

first of all it's Royce Grace like the car rolls royce.

second of all I don't think Bruce would fight Royce due to there wouldn't be any point of it if Royce didn't challenge him, and likewise Royce wouldn't fight Bruce unless Bruce challenged him.

there's no point in challenging someone or trying to find out who would win because they more than likely wouldn't fight in the first place; since Martial Arts is for DEFENSE only and not an offensive sport, and any TRUE Martial Artist knows this.

it would be a pretty good match if they did, very tough to say for sure.

Royce and anyone who says otherwise knows nothing about fighting, Bruce has only been in 3 fights that very few if any have witnessed. Royce has fought many twice his size what is Bruce going to do "one inch punch"? It isn't like the video games where you can just light punch somebody and cancel out there grab. Bruce Lee is a myth great actor as he fooled everybody into thinking he was the greatest fighter alive.

btw don't take it offensive I grew up with Bruce as my hero and he still is a legend for getting Kung Fu movies mainstream in the US.

Bruce Lee hands down. Bruce adapted to using all forms of the martial arts in his art Jeet Kune Do. He could use BJJ moves against Royce and beat him at his own game.

Hoyce would win and here is why:

Remember the early days when BJJ (GJJ) first made a name for itself in MMA? Same concept applies here.

Given that he has never seen brazillian jiu jitsu before and bruce was likely not introduced to concepts of ground fighting (or at least not that familliar with them) he would operate much like the strikers in the early days of the UFC.

He would get in a few good hits, but would not be able to indefinately avoid grappling, and once that happened hoyce would have the definitive advantage as all bruce's skill, speed, technique and agility would be nullified when he is on his back.

HOWEVER:
The question stated "In thier prime", not If bruce had lived, continued training, developed his system of fighting in today's concept then fought hoyce gracie when they were both in thier prime knowing what they now knew about martial arts.

This would be anyone's guess. It really wouldn't be hoyce defeating bruce as much as it would be time. Time because he never had a chance to develop and evolve, and in the last 30 years martial arts has evolved beyond him and his concepts as new concepts became popularized and shown to work (such as bjj, submission grappling and other arts).

What you have here is the simple question of striker vs. grappler, not the striker of today who realizes that grappling and ground game are a reality, but the striker of 30+ years ago who would be taken totally off guard and surprised by the concept of a takedown and triangle or arm bar.

I don't know if bruce even heard of Helio or gave bjj or gjj a second thought.

I'd have to say Bruce, Royce just isn't fast enough to handle Bruce. There are definitely UFC or MMA guys that could take Bruce, but not Royce.

I believe Bruce Lee would win the fight. He just had a much more diverse training and experience in the martial arts. He believed in doing the unexpected and more than likely studied Judo (the style Brazilian Juijitsu was developed from) and had studied grappling techniques along with striking techniques. If unencumbered by rules, Bruce could simply use his speed to make his first strike the eyes, then throat, groin... etc... and still keep the distance necessary to control the fight. It would not surprise me if he would have been willing to grapple. Even though all we see him doing on the big screen is mostly striking, he was well acquainted with grappling.

anyone who thinks that Royce would win doesn't know anything about B Lee. Are we forgetting that the martial art Jeet Kuhn Do was a freestyle form of fighting. Something that included all the martial arts. Bruce would win hands down.
