My boyfriend's uncle offered him a house for a decent price, but only his name is going on the deed, he won't sign a paper saying if we split up I get what I put into the house, he says that if he does, and we do break up, I would have lived for free for however long before we split up. I don't want to do it, I feel like in the end I will get screwed and he keeps insisting we are not going to break up but people change. We argue almost all the time over this house because he wants it and I don't under these circumstances. What should I do? I feel like this whole thing is going to cause us to break up now!

Well you're not married but if he insists that you don't have your name and you have actually been helping out with the mortgage, then should have your name on it too. If he doesn't want to put your name and you're paying your half or some part, then maybe you need to stop and save your money for your own house. In the end you'll get screwed trust me! Good luck! Let him get his house with his own money not yours and his.

As often as people break up... and relationships come and go, even marriages. There is nothing wrong with a single man putting his name on the deed alone. In fact it's the smart thing to do.
If it really bothers you, I ask... why? Do you have a plan to make a claim if the relationship doesn't work out? What are your intentions?
I applaud him for being smart....
If the relationship works out, and you eventually get married... you have claim by law to his estate... he would probably even sign a quick claim deed making you 50% owner.
You have no right to object to a single guy buying a house alone...
Deal with it.

In the end you eventually will get screwed... sorry to say that, but it's more likely than not to happen. I would just buy a house separate from a relative of eitehr one of you, and split everything up equally. It's only fair that way. The man should not get everything, even if the house is from his uncle.

Let him buy it, but only give him money as if part of your half of the rent and bills. If you trust him already then there should be nothing to worry about. Only other choice is to still date, but live in different houses.

I THINK THAT YOU HAVE ANWSERED YOUR OWN QUESTION. YOU SEE STUFF LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME ON TV. WHY WOULD YOU PAY THOUSAND OF DOLLARS FOR SOMETHING THAT YOU WONT EVEN BE ABLE TO KEEP IF AND WHEN YOU AND YOUR BOYFRIEND BREAKUP. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO INVEST SO MUCH MONEY AND TIME INTO SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO?

Get your name on paper (deed). If you are going to be helping with mortgage payment, you should be on the deed.

THE BEST WAY TO DO THIS, IS IT'S HIS HOUSE HE PAYS ALL OF THE BILLS. YOU SHOULD SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR YOURSELF IN YOUR OWN ACCOUNT. AND I WOULD SAVE THE MONEY AND NOT SPEND ALL OF IT. NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU'LL NEED YOUR OWN NEST EGG.
