I have a question my boyfriend, is currently enlisted in the Navy, hisrecruiter told him?

that the Navy and Army are the only branches that
secure the job before you go to bootcamp and know what your job will
be, is
that true. I am thinking about joining the Coast Guard, so I would like
to
know!
Another thing is my boyfriend is thinking about switching over to Coast
Guard after Navy boot camp can he do that? and after he does military
he
wants to be on the SWAT team what do you think will be better for him
to do Coast guard or Navy SEALs? or does it matter? I really dont know
the
requirements to be on the SWAT team. well thank you for getting back

Also are you out at sea for 6 months at a time like Navy? I dont know

All Branches have ability to guarentee you job training in a specific field. You just have to specify what you want(based on twhat your ASVAB scores qualify you for)

your BF may not just switch over to CG after Navy boot camp, he must first complete his intial term of service.. if he is NCS, that's 15 months AD time followed by 24 months reserves, begininng once A school is completed. If he is regular Navy, it could be anywhere from 4-6 years AD time.

yes, Coasties deploy for six months at a time including to lovely places like the Arabian Gulf, but their primary mission is Search and Rescue and counterdrug ops much closer to home.

Civilian law enforcement is vastly different than military law enforcement. Getting into BUD/s is very hard, and it is even harder to successfully complete the program.

First off, it's the Navy, not Burger King. You just can't wake up and say I want to do something else. You signed the contract, deal with it. If he wanted Coast Guard, he should have joined. As for the MOS thing? If you have the scores and meet the requirements of the "A" school you get to go. Simple as that. As for the SWATeam thing? That's a whole other thing down the road. Also Most Police depts. only have a few Swat spots. Also you have to put in time on the street before they even consider you. Sea duty for The USCG tends not to last that long.Most USCG ops. are in coastal waters in small boats & thus don't stay ouy that long. Even the big WHEC's don't do real long cruises.

I can't speak for the Army, but the best way to enlist in the Navy is with a job class included in the contract.

Joining the Navy means a commitment to the Navy. The Coast Guard is a separate service.

Being assigned to the Navy Seals is something a recruit can aspire to, but it will be up to command if a transfer to that area of training is granted. The Navy won't waste time on just anyone to become a Seal.

Navy training would be an excellent educational way to apply for a SWAT team after service. So much more than just being a good shot is involved, and with the GI Bill, and time served, the required college courses needed will be within reach, no mater your financial status.

Six months at sea is the longest one can be deployed. Remember though, if a Sailor is in Japan, for example, he will get leave, but not a ticket home to the States. Leave is granted at port. What Sailors do with their time is up to them.

Every Sailor's story is different, along with terms of service. One common element is family and loved ones support. You too will be signing up for the emotional ride of a lifetime. I can only tell you that it is worth every tear and moment of worry.

Air Force give you EXACTLY what job you are going in for unless you go open............which means within a certain field they will pick one for you NOT a good idea.

You really need to read up a bit more as depending on the rank of the person that determines length of sea duty......the tours are not normally more than six months in length BUT this does not include work up, mini cruises and any other jollies they dream up along the way.

You seem to be bouncing all over the place with what you want to do and achieve as does your b/f..................what swat team??? seals are really highly trained and can take a long time to get into as they WILL ensure he is trained for something else first as he did NOT enter for this job.


FOOT NOTE : sorry I re read what I put and i did sound rude.I meant that all you will get on here are generalisations and I know for a fact that the Navy is changing almost daily, so have a long hard look at the web sites out there for ALL 3 of the forces and make a sound judgment based on what you read.....whatever you do you MUST get what is told you in writing PERIOD. that way they can not back out of it...............Your b/f is in a prime place to start asking questions once he is out of basic as he will have senior ranks to guide him, have him look around till he finds one that he feels comfortable with.................I am not sure BUT I think he will have to do at least 2 to 3 years in the Navy before he changes over to anything.............

You have to read the contract carefully.

When I signed up for the Army, I was guaranteed the SCHOOL of my choice, but they would not guarantee me a job in that field, because no one could guarantee I'd pass it, or that they would need me to do that job if I did pass.

I doubt that any of the other services do anything differently today.

What they do is give everyone a fair shot at competing for the schools and jobs, but they're going to try to select the best they have available, and aren't going to be tied down to promises some recruiter made to you back home.

If you can't get what you want in the military, you just have to try to want what you get.

Some MOS's now pay a $20,000 sign on bonus with completion of your Basic and service! What a chunk huh??
Plus while your in the Guard you can get a full college education on their tab!! paid in full!! How cool is that!!
