That's a hard question to answer. I say that because although we focus on academic stuff in the morning, our learning time certainly doesn't stop then. There's time in the afternoon for music, art, science experiments, building things, going for walks or to the library, more free reading and so on. It also depends on the age of the child. My 6yo ds does not spend as much time on formal school work as my 9yo dd does. But that's how it is in school, too. I've taught both grades 1 and 4 and know the difference in work load!
Oh, and for those who think homeschooled kids spend most of their day watching tv, they've got to meet more homeschoolers. I know of very few who watch a lot of tv. Most homeschooling parents I know restrict tv time a lot. In our family, the kids are not allowed tv or video games during the week.

We started homeschooling our children in Kindergarten and plan to homeschool thru high school. But you can homeschool one year to graduation.
Now if you meant, How long does homeschool last for a day? That varies for each child and parent. My girls who are younger, normally finish about 1:00 PM. And my son, who is in 5th grade, finishes when he gets done with the assigned work. He normally gets done anywhere between Noon and 4:PM.
Hope this helps you!

Depends on you academics your taking/ school sched. I'm a senior this year. Home schooled. I have Calculus everyday at a pvt. school. take college Chemistry, Sophomore English, and Government at a college in town. And once a week I take Spanish 2, physics, and Great tradition/Church history. So I have a jam packed week but I'm still able to hang out with friends throughout the week and hang out on the weekends.

Actual classwork?? Three hours a day...and in this time we do two complete lessons from the Calvert curriculum. However, when we aren't "working" we are usually at activities like art or tae kwan do, out with other home school families on field trips or doing things that interest us like scrapbooking, going to museums, the library and cooking projects. My daughter also gets 90 minutes of PC time a day, but part of this is used researching answers to questions I give her based on her science and history lessons. Once her other friends come home from school, she is usually at the park or playing with them. Once her dad gets home, we go the local track and walk as a family. After dinner time is spent watching a movie as a family, reading or working on personal projects and crafts. So you see, she gets lots more education than just book work and certainly has a more active social life than I do!

Do you mean as in every day or as in throughout a lifetime? Everyday: It varies with the family's schedule and the children's needs.
Lifetime-wise: Anywhere from pre-school to high school, and even college.

My kids are actually sitting down and working for about 2.5 hours, but they are in K and 3rd. They also spend time free reading and other activities like that.

My son has been going to home school for 14 years now- we started early (age 8), and soon he'll be in high school!
We're going to try to homeschool him for college as well.
