Do i use a primer?

a primer is used on new or unpainted surfaces and sometimes as an etching agent,if your samples are of the same type paint,eg water based, or oil based,as the color you are gonna paint ,no primer required
now it gets technical,if you are using a low hide color,deep yellow,deep red,deep blue,you will need to color the entire wall in a base color,or the samples will smile tru the new finish ...for ever!!
the store will tell you if a color is low hide,use a light Grey for blues greens and reds and white for yellow and orange,
this technique can be used all the time to save on expensive finishes
