and run out of the wines they are tasting?

Shouldn't some degree of planning be involved here?

Yes, they charged (only a dollar, but the main wine I wanted to taste, a verdehlo, was the one they ran out of. Of course thy didn't run out of the 1 millionth merlot lol. (Actually I think in my state, the law requires some nominal fee for regularly scheduled tastings, otherwise you're limited to holding something like 5 tastings a year.

Yup, very poor planning. They should take some time to do one of two things.
1) Ensure they have enough on hand to taste for the duration. Hell, if you have no more wine, how does the shop expect to sell the stuff. Am I correct in assuming that they charge a small amount for the tasting, or is it gratis?
2) If they have a fixed quantity, they should fix the number of people who can taste...take a number or something.

I'm with you.

A lot of wine stores rely on free wines from the reps for wine tastings. I think it's reprehensible that they advertise a set time for tastings and run out. Where I work if the free stuff runs out we pull the cork on our stock. The object is to get customers in a familiar with your store and your stock. Getting people in then ( I beg your pardon) pis$ing them off is not a good idea.
