I am having a baby later this month, and just found out this week that I am having a baby shower. A family member I am not really that close to has stepped up an done almost all of the planning. My sister sent out invitations, but the other family member has been responsible for everything else. I am very grateful to her for her efforts, and would like to know how to properly thank her for all she has done. (I probably would not have gotten a baby shower if not for her efforts.) Right now things are very tough financially so I cannot afford to buy her an expensive thank you gift - which is another reason I am so grateful for the shower - It will be nice having a little help with all the stuff I need for the new baby.
But, the bottom line is, how do I effectively show my gratitude to the shower host?

Give her a heartfelt card at the shower to let her know how much you appreciate her throwing your baby shower. A few days after the shower send her flowers. This is a nice gesture and is very good etiquette.

I just threw a gigantic baby shower on Saturday (over 40 people attended!) for my mother. (She's having her second baby 22 years after her first, me.) After the party, she gave me a very nice card that said how much she appreciated the effort I put into it, then took me out to dinner. But the absolute best thanks she gave me was letting me go home after it all and not having to clean up!

I would say a nice card would do the trick. Especially if she knows you are not finacially stable enuf to get her anything else. Just show your gratitude without trying to buy her off.

A truely heartfelt thank you card (from you, dad & baby) and flowers or a flowering plant - she can keep that longer.

what i would do is take her to lunch. or if thats not possible spend extra time with her and let her know that you are expecially greatful for her efforts. also write her a note telling her that you are greatful for her. but not just hi. thanks. goodbye. A meaningful one tell her exactly what you just told us and more. thank her for everything that she did and what it meant to you. thats what id want for a gift.

A bunch of flowers is always nice and a thank you card - it never fails.
