Do smokers think chucking cigarette butts out the window is littering?

Paper cups and sandwich wrappers are just as biodegradable -- do they throw these out too?

In time most things are degraded, including cigarrett butts and sandwich wrappers. Both have plastic in them and they persist a long time.

my hubby is a state trooper and gives out tickets to people who throw cigarettes out the window because it IS littering. it's gross, keep it in ur own cars, ur the ones who smoked it!! who wants to see that on the side of the road, i don't. i wonder if they do it in there own front lawns too?

As an ex-smoker, I can tell you from experience that pretty much almost every smoker doesn't give tossing cigarette butts out the window a 2nd thought. There is no conscious thought of what they are doing is littering. Tons of people litter in my community and I despise it. Personally, my vehicle is cluttered with garbage because I refuse to litter. I wait until I reach a garbage container (in public places) or until I get home and toss it.

Paper cups and sandwich wrappers are NOT biodegradable!! where are you getting your information from? As a matter of fact, I'm a "Smoker" and I dont throw my butts, on the ground at all !! I knock the cherry-off, then I throw them in the trash in my house..I smoke outside, and I wont allow my kids to be around me, when I smoke.. And I dont "Polute" at all, anything!! Now, if it were like a hot summer day, and I was out camping or something and ate an orange, I'd simply throw, the peels on the ground. ..They are "Biodegradable!!" Along with banana peels, or any fruit, for that matter... Bread crumbs, for the birds, cracker's I wouldn't want birds to eat chip crumbs, because their Loaded with all kinds of fats, that aren't good for the birds! All natural earth grown things can go back to the earth....Otherwise, I'm sorry to dissappoint you, but, if your throwing paper cups, and sandwich bags, on the ground and thinking there biodegradable, then your "POLUTING"! And thats not good !! I really dislike poluters!! I even go around anywhere I go, and if trash is on the ground, I pick it up, and throw it in the trash in my car, or at home.. I even do it in my neighborhood, just because, it looks so messy,and there's no reason for anyone to polute! when there's so many trash cans everywhere!! Its like so ridiculous!!! Polution only adds to all the Global problems are poor world already has!! So do your "Good-Deed" today and pick-up a peice of trash, and tell someone else to do it, and maybe, just maybe, if one person tells another, we might all go back to the OLD days when people wouldn't even think to polute!! Its our world do we want to be nice to it, or trash it , with "UNgrateful-hearts"?? That is the question.. Iwould have a "Guilty conscience if I poluted...NOT!!! I just dont do it, period, end of subject!!! Smile!!!

I can only speak for myself, I am a smoker, however, do not litter any trash onto the streets or highways. I make a conscience effort to throw my trash in a trash can. And it angers me when i see other people litter. I don't like people throwing cigarette butts on the ground, it is bad enough we smoke, we don't have to litter the world with the smelly remnants. And no I do not smoke in restaurants, or public places where it is still allowed i do not even smoke in my home or car, only outside. I do have respect for others who choose not to smoke. I wish I never would have started it is a very nasty habit and a very hard one to overcome. When people litter it makes me wonder what their houses look like. God Bless.

Cigarette butts do not contain plastic....but yes, a smart person that smokes, knows that it IS littering if you chuck one out the window. The dumb ones dont care. Yes, they also throw out cups and wrappers.

Smokers litter everywhere, presumably because they are too lazy to look for an ashtray. They will even litter a foot away from an ashtray. They probably think their one little cigarette butt is too small to be of any consequence. Multiply that by about one million per day in an average size city you smokers out there.

They toss burning cigarette butts from cars because they don't want to dirty the ashtray in their car OR they are not supposed to be smoking in the car.

They toss lit cigarette butts from building balconies because they are too lazy to bring an ashtray outside with them when they smoke. They toss them from windows so as not to dirty anything in their place.

They are probably not thinking "I'm littering"; they are too self-absorbed for that. They are doing what is most convenient for them at that moment.

I suspect that these smokers feel that tossing their butt out the window is no different than throwing chewing gum out the window. The thing is, throwing anything from the window of a moving vehicle is dangerous and ought to be illegal everywhere. Unfortunately, the police are more interested in making money with their speed traps than actually making our roads safer.

Yes, it is. Smokers do it because they are lazy pigs that are too lazy to clean up their own filth, just like the people that throw the paper cups and sandwich wrappers out the window. They should get a huge fine and be forced to do community service picking up litter.

I am a smoker and get very upset when I see other smokers toss their butts out the window. Not only is it an obvious fire hazard but it is littering up the streets as well.

it's littering if you throw garbage on the ground instead of in the proper container, therefore throwing away cigarette butts is littering
