For a shower my sister recently hosted, she did a salad party. She had cooked chicken breasts the day before on the grill that she sliced and set out for salads. She had salad greens and all the things you can imagine to put on a salad and presented different dressings. She also had pasta salad, broccolli salad, bean salad, jellos a variety of breads, rolls, muffins, fruited breads and cheeses. It was nice because while she did have to get everything set up, she was also able to enjoy the shower as there was no cooking involved. For dessert she had a cake she had made, some fancy cookies and then two kinds of sherbet that she sliced and put on a large platter for anyone to help themselves. Everything was put into beautiful bowls, china, platters, dishes. For beverages there was tea, coffee, pop, sparkling and bottled water. If you wanted you could make a mimosa with orange juice/champayne
For the tables she went to a fabric store where you can buy lace in fabric size by the length you want. She picked different colors and then put these on her tables over white paper table cothes. It really was pretty.
For centerpieces she purchased floral foam here is just one link of probably many, I do not know which one she used:

You just stick the flowers in, she got the idea from a magazine. And let the foam show on a pretty dish. She did a variety of sizes, stacking some in different colors and different dish shapes.
The color theme of this shower was hot colors.
For party favors a small lotion or hand sanitizer from bath and body works is nice! Whatever you come up with, enjoy and have fun!

for a decorative party favor. Make pacifiers.

USE PER PACIFIER:

1 lg. Jelly Bean
1 mint round or candy round
1 LifeSaver

Use Royal Icing to connect jelly bean to one side of mint and the LifeSaver to the other side. Use ribbon to run through loop of LifeSaver.

These are so cute.

You can also use those NECCO Wafers for the mint. I have used Russel Stover Mints in the past.

Like one of your responses, I too made the baby pacifiers out of candy. I also make "Puppy Chow" which is a HUGE hit. You can find the receipe on the back of a Chex box. Another idea is to take the wooden clothespin that have the round top and slip over clothes and the clothesline. Cut squares (4x4 or 6x6) squares of felt (various baby colors), lay the clothespin ontop of the felt square. Wrap it around the pin like a blanket. Hot glue gun it to stay down. Add a narrow ribbon around the neck to make a bow. With a permenant felt tip marker add eyes, nose and mouth. These work well as decorations, party favors, or to add ontop of pkgs. Another idea is to make diapers using napkins (white) the person who gets the "dirty" one (filled with peanut butter or a choc. raisinet) wins a prize. You could also have a taste testing party with baby food. The person who correctly identifies the most correct flavors wins. Other ideas include word scrambles using girls names, riddles to identify typical baby items, How well do they know their Nursery Rhyme characters, when sending out the invites, give each guest a nursery rhyme and ask her to bring something that goes to that rhyme. Before the guest of honor can open her real gift, she must first open the nursery rhyme gift and guess the rhyme. I did this but for a bridal shower and used songs from the Rolling Stones. No pun intended but it was a HIT.
As for food: Baby punch "spiked" with sparkling juice...pink sherbert, 7up and sparkling juice, mini sandwiches put inside small roll...chicken, ham, egg salad. Or you could try this...it sounds weird but it is delicious. Take 4 slices
of white bread, cut the sides off and cut in 1/4's. On one slice spread a small amount of chicken salad, next slice add egg salad, third slice of bread add ham salad. Top with a plain slice of bread. Completly cover the entire sandwich with softened cream cheese. Be sure to have a veggie tray or salad. Various types of cheese is also good. Another crowd pleaser is the veggie pizza using crescent rolls, Dry ranch dressing mixed with sour cream (I think) and raw veggies...the receipe comes from Pampered Chef. These are just a few ideas. I could go on and on. Another good idea would be to check out sites like: baby showers.com, Martha Stewart, Rachel Ray, Parenting magazine and so on. I get a lot of ideas from them. Have fun and good luck.
