I'm in a serious relationship, even though it's only been 7 months. And when he gets out of training and stuff we still want to stay together, and his direct qoute was "everyone who wants to stay together in the army, gets married." Is this true, or are there other ways to stay together?

well if he goes overseas like to Germany and such it will be hard if you're not married. in the states it is easier cause then you just move to the town where he will be stationed at and live off base. however you will not be able to live on base unless married and he will still have to have and maintain a room in the barracks. if you have a kid together then he can get housing without you being married as long as he has the right paper work done for it. if no child then you have to rent or buy off base. he may or may not be able to stay the nights with you if he has work in the morning, that will depend on his commander. but i would suggest if you don't want to get married then have him stay stateside otherwise you will either have to deal with a long distance relationship or to get married to stay together.

Hi! I am a Amry wife so I thought I would let you know what I know. We have on post housing and we get BAH. The guys in my hubbys unit that are just dating someone aren't allowed to live with them and they have a hard time coming on post. If he was to deploy you wouldn't really be a part of the whole thing because you wouldn't have a military ID to get on post and they wouldn't contact you about things that are going on, unless you are married. Being a military wife is cool, there are the pros: getting to be a part of everything, insurance; but then the cons: deployments, housing sometimes sucks (mine does). If you're ready for this kind of life (I know it would kind of be the same just dating, but being married to them is so much different) then go for it! Hope this helps!

The thing about that is that when not married the person staying at home cheats on the person going to war. By getting married is a way of saying that you will stay with him no matter what happens and he feels that he wont come home to you leaving him

It is traditional and I am not aware of family housing off base without a marriage.

So if you want to be able to move with him where ever he gets sent to when he gets his permanent base, then you need to get married.

There are many benefits to being married while in the military in the way of health and housing.

I could not go the military way though.

Good luck.

you dont have to get married, but if you do it will make things easier. if you dont, you will have to move wherever he is stationed and live off post, the army will not help pay for it either. if you get married, the army will pay to get you to wherever he is, he will get paid more, the army will pay for your housing and medical insurance, there are a lot of benefits to being married in the army. but if you dont think you are ready for that type of commitment, dont just get married because it will make things easier. good luck.

If he is enlisted not commissioned he will be required to live in the barracks if he is single. If he is commissioned they will pay him BAH- basic allowance for housing.

He isn't lying. He may be able to get special permission from his commander to live somewhere other than the barracks but don't count on it.

If you were to be married you would qualify for housing (on base) or BAH to live off base.

Good luck.

being in the army he could get staioned over seas and if that happens you may have to be married to stay with him, and he propably wont get bah ( basic assisted housing) if your not his wife so he'll have to stay on base and you can not live with him there so you'd have to get your own place, and in the begining he wont make enough money to help you out very much,

You can only stay in on post housing if you are married. You can stay in off post housing if his commander approves it. If he gets sent overseas, and you are not married they won't pay for airfare or any kind of housing. He won't get any kind of extra pay for housing unless you are married.

Well, if he gets shipped off to Korea, how will you stay together? The military will not pay for your airfare, housing etc.
