I have been working with our family doctor on trying to figure out what is wrong with him. We thought he was collicky, then lactose intolerant. He has been on Zantac until this last month we upted his meds to Prevacid. He is better but still wakes up screaming in pain. You can hear the acid come up, he swallows hard, has a runny nose alot, hiccups, constipation and indigestion. I think it is all related. Any ways, I know what to try to avoid feeding him, but what is left to give him? Especially drinks...he doesn't really like water.

Acid reflux can be a body's response to a food intolerance or allergen. I would take the following steps:
1. Keep a food diary - what are you feeding him and when? Note when he has the acid reflux attacks.
2. Take the food diary to your pediatrician. At 15 months, it's may be dangerous to start restricting things (aside from Twizzlers and junk food) from an otherwise healthy child, so you'll want to be under the care of a physician (although tomatoes will really cause acid reflux, so maybe avoid those!!)
3. Work with the pediatrician to discover what exactly is causing the Acid Reflux.
For instance, I have a disease called Celiac's Disease, an intolerance of gluten (found in wheat, barley, rye - which in turn is in a lot of medicines, sauces etc... - so your son might be ingesting gluten without knowing it). If I get gluten in me, you can be SURE the acid reflux will keep me up all night long.
If your son has a food allergy or intolerance that is causing the acid reflux, it can be as simple as crafting a diet to suit his dietary needs.
FYI - about 1 in 150 people have a gluten intolerance, so it's not weird or out there. It's a pretty natural thing, as is lactose intolerance or soy allergies.

Don't put rice cereal in a bottle. If you want to give rice cereal it should only be given by spoon. Cereal no matter how much, is still a choking hazard if given in a bottle and it doesn't help the GERD that way. My doctor gave us randitine (zantac) for our baby'a GERD. Perhaps you should ask your doctor to try that. It doesn't taste very good but it works for us. After you feed your baby keep him upright for at least 20 minutes and don't play with him for at least an hour. The movement will make them throw up. Good luck.

This is a natural program that you can try to cure your acid reflux http://acidreflux.toptips.org
Acid reflux disease, also known as gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), occurs due to the coexistence of several medical and lifestyle conditions. Physiological factors that trigger GERD include lower esophageal sphincter (LES) hypotonia (the gradual weakening of the LES), along with retrograde flow of stomach contents into the esophagus, and the level of sensitivity of the esophageal mucus to the reflux content.

At 15 months, I would not restrict what you give him, but I would restrict how much. Frequent small amounts are much better than fewer large amounts. Also make sure he remains upright after ingesting anything for at least thirty minutes.

What symptoms are appearing that made you come to this conclusion... This would be highly irregular in one that young.
