but my company does not have the budget for one. Does anyone know of an organisation who provide them for free?

Courses I've attended in the past use special training de-fibs, not real ones - that is what I'm after.

Thanks guys - I don't want a real one, I want a training de-fib (the training version of the ones you find in public places that are automatic). Even if it was real it wouldn't hurt anyone as it doesn't shock unless you are in AV.

It is way too dangerous to use a live working model as accidents could be fatal. You could pay for a Paramedic or Cardiac Nurse to do that part of the training. I really doubt you would actually get a free one because they are both expensive and dangerous and a private company would be expected to stump up some form of cash for training. It isn't usual however, for basic life support training or CPR training to include the use of a defib unless the people being trained hold registered clinical qualifacations such as Medical or Nursing Degrees and Diplomas.

you need to contact your local red cross or st johns for 2 things first i don't think your training has been that good because you never shock anyone in AF as they are still alive normally, so i think you need to be retrained.
and the defib you require is called an AED (automated electronic defib) and yes they should not be able to shock the wrong rhythm but you still need correct training because all machines Can go wrong.
if you speak to both of these organisations they will give you info on how to get 1 and the correct training.
please don't go gun ho other wise you will make my job harder

The British Red Cross get their training AED's (automated external difibrillators) from St John's supplies in London, they cost about £2,000, unfortunatley they couldn't find someone to supply them free either, you could try and raise the money through fund-raising.
Training AED's come with a remote-control so you can change the outcome of the supposed paitent

Contact your local Red Cross or St John Ambulance (or St Andrew's Ambulance in Scotland). They can put you through a training course for how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and will give you all the relevant information that you need.

If you are in the UK try THE BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION.or ask your local Resus officer at the major hospital near you most of them run courses for the public called HEARTSTART,Someone brought up a good point you use real defibs for training its the dummy you train on that's special I would have thought that if you are qualified to teach this you would have known that?I have my suspicions(REAL PARAMEDIC)

I am sorry to be so blunt, I do not believe that you are competent enough to use one let alone teach others to use one.
Perhaps you have had the training to use an AED and your company knows this...let the professionals do the training and you use only the skills that you have...and re-fresh annually as most of us have to.

I would have thought it would be quite dangerous to use a real de-fib for training.
As for organisions that supply them free, I have never heard of one.

Call your local fire department or hospital and ask to speak with the training officer/person. They will likely be happy to teach a class for you.
