oh yes my dog dozer she a chow and each time i had heart problems and ended up in the hospital she would not leave my side all night we now know she can tell when my heart is not working like it should. she is the best dog if i leave her in the car she sits and waits looking for me to come out and when i do she let me know how happy she is that i came back. the joy of a dog is so great unconditional love. just joy to be with me be it sleeping sitting in the bath room out side or riding in the truck. she happy if we walk to the corner or go to the park and walk. there is nothing better than the love and company of my dog.
you got to know this is coming form a man that only had cat this is the first dog for us.. i see now me missed out on a lot.

Yes, I had my dog put to sleep on Monday just gone (this is Rob's wife Anne here), and I miss the loyalty, love, devotion, the company and when I used to walk through the door from work, my GSD dog was always there to make a fuss of me.
To me sheba was a best friend, a truly fantastic member of the family that everyone who met her, loved her.
I miss the little things like if I've had a bad day at work I would put my arms around her and kiss her, and she would lick me back, I miss that contact, I have memories of her, and nothing can replace a dog - a true friend, and loyal companion from the time you have them into the house until the day you have to take them to the vet to be put to sleep.
I used to love going on walks with her, she loved meeting other dogs and sniffing around them and making friends.
Its lovely to talk to you about your dog and about mine, as i feel so fortunate to have known my Sheba, my friend, my lovable member of my family and will never forget her.

Do you know where this quote originated from?
It's from a story in the Bible. I forget the human involved, but basically God split the earth between him and all the animals of the world. Of all the animals, the only one to jump across the divide and join man at his side was the dog. Thus the dog is interpreted as Man's Best Friend. My interpretation of this tale is that because dogs are so dim-witted and useless in the wild, he had no other thought than to jump to his Master for protection against all the "cruel", i.e intelligent-make-their-own-way-in-life, animals. This idiotic dependance on man is a parallel to the Christian religion, Man's idiotic dependance on God.
A good friend will bail you out of gaol, a really good friend will turn to you and say "We f*cked up!" A true friend will look at you through the bars and call you a "cnut", because if you can't call a true friend a "cnut", who can you?
A dog is man's really good friend, cat's are man's true friends!

The reason dogs are called Man's Best Friend is because way back in the covered wagon days when settlers were moving west, space was minimal. They had no room for something like toilet paper when they could make due (doo ) with something that could be found on the way. Lo and Behold. Dogs gladly cleaned their woners up (eww) and is now and forevermore called Man's Best Friend.

Even being a cat person I will give you this:
Dogs give you unconditional love - no matter what you do to them or anyone else, so I would have to say:
"Yes, they are a person's best friend"
PS: Look at the PADS ( trained assistance dogs ) like wow!!!!!

I have a human best friend, but my dogs are a close second. They are more like a part of my family. I think my dog Wiley is actually my cat's best friend though.

I love my dog, but I wouldn't class her as my best friend, especially in the early hours of the morning when she decides to take up the whole bed!
But myself and my family rarely leave our dog out of anything, she isn't left alone very often unless we go somewhere we really can't take dogs ... not best friend, but definately one of the family.

I love my dog, too.
I think dogs are our best friends, because they never fail to keep a secret and they love unconditionally.
Thanks for your question.
