Since they had to walk, it was a show of respect to wash your guests feet. Would today's equivalent be washing their car?
"Man, you had to drive all the way over here... let me wash your car as a sign of my respect."

How come we don't do anything respectful like washing guest's feet anymore?

The equivalent would be inviting them to sit down and asking them if they would like a drink.

It wasn't a show of respect. It was a thankless task done by servants. So the modern equivalent would be to perform any task you consider to be menial. We still have feet, so washing someones feet could still apply today.

I think a lot of it is because we are all hyper-aware of germs and bacteria and scents and things... in the years I've been dating I'd say about half of the girls I've known were throughly disgusted by the concept of feet.

As for the other part of the question ... maybe not washing the car. Maybe offering them gas money, or refreshment after the long drive?

This is because the majority of people nowadays don't like that kind of personal attention and respect. They like a farther away, less spiritual connection with people around them. I think that the old ways of respect are the best, and it is sad that modern society has decided to reject this and have less spiritual relationships with those around them.

That's a great question. I really can't think of any equivalent in today's society. Food and drink was also given in those says.

I think that a good sign of welcome, hospitality and respect is to offer refreshments, Soda, coffee, koolaide, water, etc with a plate of munchies like cookies, brownies or bowl of nuts or chips etc. I think that is the closest we can come in this day and age, other offers might be misinterpreted

What did Christ say it meant? Christ said that "the master is not greater then the servant" I think that it explains itself.
