Okay you have to get a CHI, its a flat iron and it amazing... Its kinda expensive, about $130 but belive me its worth it.

TRADE SECRET is where I found mine, at most malls or online.

Also I use a cream NOT gel, moose, hairspray use a CREAM its better for your hair and it should help keep it straight, but believe me if you get a CHI all your worries will be gone, try to google it, I have seen a lot of celebrities use it. Good Luck, keep me posted if you get it.

I've noticed my hair is generally easier to work with and straighten when I towel dry it first (twist it up in a towel while I eat breakfast and get dressed...) and then blowdry it the rest of the way while using a comb to dry pieces at a time. It's a little damaging, but I dry it completely this way (so it isn't even slightly damp) and then I work from underlayers first when straightening. If you just want to curl the ends... don't straighten the ends. If you want to curl all of your locks, skip the straightener and use the curling iron the same way you would a straightener, but while your hair is still hot - curl it.

Ionic straightening is your best solution for permanently straightening it. But if you don't want to treat your hair chemically, then follow these steps. first, don't air dry, but blow dry your hair, put on a straightening product like Wella System Professional Straightaway (this is a VERY GOOD product) using a brush, direct the air flow down your hair, this flatens your cuticle somewhat. then flat iron your hair section by section, do not try to iron all at once. clip up everything above the ears, and start with bottom section first, then let down each additional section and flat iron. when you are done, spray on some hairspray that fights against humidity (a good one would be nioxin) and finally invest in a good straightening iron like CHI.

I'd suggest you get a haircut and let your hairstylist first get rid of some of the bulk in your hair.

If you don't want to cut it then when your hair is damp or towel dried, blow dry as best as you can and then slowly run your irons through them.

Before blow drying, use an anti frizz serum or cream. Loreal liss extreme is quite good. And before ironing use a heat protector cream. Any cream you buy, look at the back of it and see if it says it's for ironing the hair. They usually work best. Loreal has one for this. Definitely don't use gel, mouse, pomade or hair spray.

do it when your hair is slightly wet. people say not to but my step sister has terrible hair and that helps. also i would advise against using hair spray or mousse.
