i heard from an unrelliable source that only rich kids are cutters cuz in the poor schools people dont cut themselves cuz its hard enough to keep other people from cutting them

No. People of all ages and socioeconomic classes can cut themselves for any number of reasons. One reason that some teenagers cut themselves is to deal with the pressure of their parents expectations for them. That's kind of the steriotypical "rich kid" thing, but that's just one of many, many reasons. Other factors that are relatively common things to push people to start cutting include alcoholic parents, childhood abuse (particularly sexual abuse), sexual assualt, an unstable home environment, the serious illness or death of a close relative, parental neglect, and various genetic disorders. None of those are unique to "rich kids."

Definitely Not True. My sister was a cutter for a few years and we were definitely not rich by any means. I've also worked in a psych center and a behavioral science unit. In fact, most of those people that were cutters were middle or lower class.

no it isn't exactly true-while most cutters are from middle class to upper class but they are the ones who get diagnosis and treatment because they can afford it. so no one knows how many lower income people suffer from this.

i was raised middle class.... and did have a suicide attempt at the age of ten involving cutting...but i didn't actually start cutting to relieve pain and what not until my late 20's at one of the poorest times of my life....
money has nothing to do with it.....
i still did it when emotionally upset sometimes when my financial situation improved......

I know plenty of poor people that cut too... It depends on the person... and its usually really passive depressed people that do it.
