The comparison was made by Mexico's President Vicente Fox.

The two are no where near the same.

For one: Germany was one country when the wall was built. Building a wall between Mexico and Texas is separating two countries with different languages, ideologies and opposing governments. America wants illegals out; the Soviet Union wanted to trap people in.

Second: I would never take seriously rhetoric from a lax and inconsistent political puppet like Vicente Fox. I don't agree that building a wall is the solution to illegal immigration, but this man obviously has no idea what he's talking about. He likes to make it sound like America and Mexico are on good terms, when in fact we are quarreling weekly.

Fox is being a drama queen.
He's just upset that America doesn't want to deal with Mexico's poverty problem anymore, when really, it should never have been pushed to our side of the border in the first place.

Somehow, I don't think portraying America as communist-like tyrant is going to convince anyone that this wall is a bad idea.

The Berlin Wall was built to keep people in.

The Border Wall will keep people out.

Vincente Fox knows that if illegals stop coming to the US he'll have to deal with the problem of high unemployment, less money coming into Mexico and a economy that will bottom out real fast.

Stop throwing your trash in our yard Vicente. Get rid of the corruption in your own country and you wouldn't have these problems that we can't, won't and shouldn't have to deal with.

(No i'm not calling illegals trash. I'm reffering to the problems Mexico has that are being transfered here via illegals such as unemployment issues, drug trafficking, violent criminals coming here, etc.)

Not the same thing. The Berlin wall was really to keep people in and they didn't allow you easily leave. The west certainly accepted people escaping (yes escaping) the Iron Curtain countries. But those also had to seek aslylum or other legal way to stay in the west.

Nobody is forcing Mexicans (or other latins) to stay in Mexico. And, people ARE allowed to come to the US if they do so legally. Its not all that easy but there is a way.

Fox really ought to worry more about what his country is doing to better the lives of its own citizens instead of worrying about what the US is doing. If Mexico weren't so bad off, we wouldn't have boat-loads of Mexicans risking their lives to come to the US illegally.

Vicente Fox is just being a drama queen. there's no way that the fence that is going to be constructed is related to the Berlin Wall. Or should a wall similar to it be constructed so that he really has something to say? he needs to STFU

Fox is upset cuz his gravy train is running out & he knows it. They are different for a bunch of obvious reasons. However, the similarity is that any wall is designed to sepearte. Its another false sence of security. A tunnel works too. A wall is no solution to the Latin migration.
Sepearting the US from our neighbor further seperates us from the rest of the world; and will quite literally push us over the edge of world's opinon and make us offical adolesent morons.

It's a sincere waste of money since Canada, the U.S. and Mexico are going to be one government if this administration has it's way.

Fox is an IDIOT! Good riddance!

I think the wall should be more secure than the Berlin Wall. Keep the illegal disease filled pregnant rats out of our country. With the money I save for not paying for their food stamps and medicaid, I can buy $3.00 per pound produce.

Fox can hate it all he wants, as far as I'm concerned, I'm all for it, I think it'll help us have a 'cut the crap' domestic policy in the future, and put an end to a lot of confusion on Father's Day, too! LOL

Its the same with bushes around.

It divides the same people .... the maxicans that used to own Texas. So actually they are not illegal as long as they stay withing texas. If they cross texas boundry than yes... So the wall has to be built outside texas.

I totally agree that this is like the Berlin Wall. It's ridiculous. Who cares if Mexicans come into this country, seriously?
