It seems that I can't do anything right for my parents. My homework is never completed to perfection, although I always hand it in on time and get full point value, my grades aren't good enough although I get all A's and B's and am on at least the honor roll every quarter. Everything I say seems to be wrong to them although I try so hard to keep attitude out of my voice. Is it me? What can I do to gain their approval? It seems like I keep working for nothing because nothing pleases them. Help me?

Evidently you aren't what they were expecting out of a child. Just do you best, and move out as soon as you legally can.

It sounds like you can't do anymore, and congrats on the great job you are doing...I am so proud of you....
They might not ever had their parents approval when they were kids and never got a pat on the back either. Parents tend to pass on how they feel about themselves to their kids.
I think you should find a role model in a teacher at school or a friends parent that has a good and healthy attitude towards their children...
You need to be nourished with love, praise and affection , so that you will grow up to be strong, assured and independent.....
You have their approval whether you know it or not... they just can't express it the way you want to hear it...
Don't worry...... You are doing nothing wrong...... Keep up the good work......

You poor thing! Im sure that your parents are hugely proud of you but that they feel that a strict, perfectionist and critical parenting style is what is best for you. What they are probably trying to do is push you in order that you attain your full potential. What they dont realise is that its really upsetting you and probably having a negative effect. Please dont feel that its you, youre working hard and achieving results which is fantastic and what they want, so although they criticise you its only because they want the best for you. They just arent doing it in a very positive way. Very important to remember that parents arent perfect, they are just normal people trying to do things in the only way they know how (their parents might have been very controlling, or alternatively very liberal, so their actions are related to how they were brought up). Therefore they do get it wrong sometimes, its not always you. You assume when youre younger that adults know it all and know exactly what theyre doing. But theyre affected by fears and insecurities too, which makes them behave in wierd ways sometimes.

There are 2 possiblities:
1. Your parents are impossible to please.
2. You are not actually doing as well as you say you are.
In reality it is probably a little of both. Don't worry so much about pleasing your parents. Concentrate on doing the right thing. You will be an adult soon, practice making good decisions for yourself now.

IT IS NOT YOU. Do not believe that. From what I hear they are terrible parents. Tell them you want to move out, if that doesn't shock some sence into them tell them you are trying your best and you think you could never be good enough, voice your opinion.

They need to accept you for who you are, you shouldnt change. If that isnt an option then the only way is to either talk to them and ask why the want so much or to just push yourself to that level. Leaving them or yelling at them will just make it MUCH worse, i know this form experience.
