Because you're different. People with fear often apply these types of stereotypes to others who differ from them. I am a good example, lol. I don't fully understand why or how, I think if I did I'd be pret-ty famous about now! :P
Anyways, be who you are. Love what you do and do what you love. As long as it doesn't bring harm to anyone else, who cares what they think! Just keep in your mind that these people act this way because they have a sickness in their heart.
BTW: if it makes you feel better, my high school class valedictorian had three lip rings and yellow cat's eye contacts. You can't judge anyone by what they look like.

Because they don't take the time to learn the differences; they see an "other" and throw you into the first available category that seems to match. The superficial similarities between goth lifestyle and stereotypes of Satanism (black clothes, antiestablishmentarianism, etc) are enough most people need to consign you to the most radically different category.

It happens to us all; it seems to be the first thing that comes to people's minds. (Probably too many sensationalistic tv movies. I blame Lifetime for a lot of this stuff.) Anyway, the best way to counteract it is to be polite, gentle and kind, which they don't usually expect. Good luck.

i dont know but i'm a christian and i like the way goths wear makeup and people will judge, when they get to know you it changes though :)

because people are quick to judge on appearances
if they took time to get to know people
they would know that most goths are very caring compassionate people

because they dont understand you and instantly classify you as evil. because people are afraid of what they dont understand. because they look on the outside instead of the inside. they dont know you for who you are. people are shallow, and many dont practice what they preach. they are judging when the bible clearly states not to judge
