I hate NY and NE accents.....but like a slight southern drawl....
When I moved to England I was very popular because of my accent.....same when I came back home after two years, people kept asking me to talk in class so they could hear the english accent.

There are so many American accents. There are even accents within accents. I personally dislike the nasal midwestern accents from girls especially. I know that is mean. New York and Boston have cool accents, as do southerners. To me the people out west have the most non-accented English.

Sorry, but no. The American accent seems lazy, like it's too hard to make every sound in the word. And the way you people pronounce "Nuclear" is just criminal (there's only 1 "U", for the love of God, just 1!) 1 important exception - the Cajun accent is very cool.

As far as the "standard" American accent (I am assuming you are referring to the current one, which is sort of Midwestern-ish), I don't really notice it. That is probably because I have it am used to hearing it.
Frankly, I find all of the other aforementioned accents to be grating on the ears. This applies to New England even though I live there and am somewhat used to hearing it.

I live in Ohio, and quite like the way I speak, thanks very much. I cannot stand southern accents, nor the sort of ghetto-speak in which the speaker drops entire syllables and twists words into something else entirely. How do these people ever find work?

The American accent screams confidence, no matter the situation or geographic location.

here, in jolly old England - we think the American accent is fine - but you do tend to speak rather loudly!
