I myself am a very skinny person. I am 5 feet 8 inches tall and weigh only 100 pounds. I do not have an eating disorder and I am not physically ill. Being this height and weight is natural for me.
People have actually come up to me and grabbed my wrists and showed their friends how skinny I am. People are constantly assuming that I have an eating disorder and people have told me that they *hated* me on sight because I am thin.
People seem to think that it is ok to make fun of skinny people, especially skinny girls. It seems like *every time* a thin woman is shown anywhere people just have to make rude comments suggesting that she has an eating disorder or that she is ugly because she is thin.
Why do people think that it is ok to make fun of skinny people? Why do fat people get upset when people make fun of them and then turn around and make rude comments about skinny people?

I did use the word "FAT" but I also used the word "SKINNY" which is just as offensive sometimes.

Although I am underweight I have been checked out by a doctor and there is nothing wrong with me. My thyroid is working perfectly and my heart is completely normal. I eat the same amount of food as anyone else, it's just that my body seems to have decided to stay this weight.

The reason behind this is both stereotypes, ignorance, and insecurity. Some people don't hesitate to point the finger and lay their insecurities on other to make themselves feel better. For instance, in some answers, it is stated that thin people are made fun of because they make fun of overweight people. That is true in some cases. Some thin people do make fun of overweight people and vice versa but just because a couple of people with the same body type(thin or overweight) makes fun of an individual does not mean that the person being ridiculed should generalize and tease the opposing body type. I have been accused of having an eating disorder when I am perfectly healthy and eat a lot! The next day I ate a lunch of collard greens, cornbread, chicken, and mac and cheese and they shut up!

These are the same ignorant, impolite people who make fun of fat people. I have endured both sides. I used to be hefty then I lost a lot of weight (189 lbs down to 135) after a serious accident. Now ignoramuses say OMG what happened to you. I just ignore them. I am healthy, do not have high blood pressure anymore and feel great. Just as long as you stay healthy that is the most important thing. Could be they're jealous because you have the body of a fashion model.

People in this world are ignorant, if they don't understand it then it is easier to make fun of it, some people just don't know what else to say, because society has everyone so programed for the specific body type. About people over weight looking down on skinny people, don't feel badly when they do that, it's just their way of lashing out at someone because people make fun of them and it hurts them so they take it out on others.

Let me see now you rationalize that because you said skinny you can also say fat. Hmm let me see if I have this right b-itch I am a b-astard which makes it okay to say b-itch and since I am a hillbilly I can say w-etback . Hmm what a way of thinking. You skinny butt b-itch as said by a fat butt b-astard hillbilly. Please note that when I type hillbilly Yahoo lets me yet not w-etback. Some people just have no idea how offensive words are unless you speak up and tell them so go ahead and tell all the poor slobs who make fun of you for being skinny how you feel.

they're not making fun of you and when they think you have an eating disorder it just shows they care and you just have to politley correct them and eat someting really unhealthy infront of them to prove it. Also, when people say you're too skinny they're just jealous or they're worried, but it is wrong to hate someone just because they're skinny and when someone grabs your wrist again grab their's and kick 'em in the shin, they'll get the hint, and not all fat people make fun of skinny people but sometimes -and I'm not saying this is right- people think you're skinny because you care so much about your looks, there's not many ways to stop that though

well..thats just it...everyone makes fun of everyone for whatever the hell reason they can fid and nik-pik about. dont get offended. dont even pay attention to it. sure its easier said than done but..once you learn to do that you're better off than them, atleast. over weight people get made fun of wherever they go...people look and stare a gock and laugh and point even..."skinny" people dont get that attraction ALL THE TIME...i myslef am skinny minny and i used to get accused of the same **** in high school. its also depending on the maturity of other people...some times you just have to understand that others are either jealous or just being judgemental pricks. you are who you are and, as long as you DONT have a problem really, then that enough said.

Its all insecurity. If you are healthy then you shouldnt care about what people say. Im fat, and I dont make comments about skinny people. Yeah it hurts, but what can you do? It helps you grow patience and tolerance. It doesnt matter what you look like, people will always find a reason to talk about you.

Fat or skinny, people ridicule for no good reason (that last part is important) because they lack self-esteem and it makes them feel better about themselves.
As far as thinking that skinny people are unattractive, that's really just a matter of taste.
And don't whine. Fat people are ridiculed far more than skinny people. You're lucky.

you do have a problem, every pound you go under a healthy body weight takes years off your life and you are very underweight which is very unhealthy whether you think so or not. Being that weight at your height is really gross and dangerous, you need to find a way to put on some weight and muscle mass. i am five foot two and weight 105 pounds and i wouldnt even dare think of going under a pound under that. I dont want my heart to stop beating in the middle of the night because of being too thin.
