To prioritise, there are several things you may look at.
1. You can look at the time line of an event - How long will it take to undertake a task or a task in comparison to another task?
2. You may review the time frame - How much time do I have left for this activity or for an activity in comparison to another activity?
3. You may value the result obtained from the activity or event - If I conduct this activity or undertake this event, what is it worth to me or if I compared event A with event B, would event A provide me better results or vice versa?
4. You may assess an event against other connected persons (beneficiaries of an action or event) - If I undertook activity A first before activity B, would person A suffer greater (assuming both have a life threatening need which is dependent on your action) than person B or will it be the other way? or can I undertake an activity with or for person A without person B feeling ignored, i.e. who is it more important to pacify first?
From this you can go on to several other things which may guide your priority to a list depending on what the priority is based upon.

Break things down into bite-sized chunks. Deal with each item as it arrives - do not categorise into urgent/non-urgent. Try to handle each piece of paper/e-mail once only.If you only tackle the 'important' issues, the others will build up until you are swamped.
Be a bureaucrat. Tell people who chase you that their problem was received later that the one you are working on. Do not be afraid to say no.
Make sure you have a routine. Encourage people to e-mail rather than telephone, and then start stonewalling the telephoners, and, if they keep calling you, take the phone off the hook and turn off the Company mobile. Keep your personal mobile switched on, in case family and friends need to contact you urgently, but do not give your personal mobile number and e-mail address to anyone at work. Keep work and personal life separate, and do not do any overtime, work lunch time, or anything else, unless you want to and get paid for it.

I look at several things:
I length of time to perform task (if its 2 minute job - do it. if will take a while then plan when to do it)
Impact of perfoming task (Does it improve something. It may be on a wish list for when urgent work is completed)
Impact of non-perfomance of task (is is fixing something currently broken! perhaps urgent if firefighting)
Is there a deadline (if so plan to complete task and check prior to deadline)
Who has assigned task (your boss or their boss? someone you want to impress, someone who can be delayed? give realistic expectations)
What are your objectives (does completeing task help you realise your personal ambitions? when will you have time to do it?)
leave plenty of time to do things and leave empty time for the unexpected and over running. Do not fill your whole time with tasks.
I hope some of this helps. There are lots of great websites with guidance on prioritisation and time management, happy hunting. If you can fit it in!

If you have deadlines then put them in date order and get them done first. Then write a list and tick off each task as you do them, you will find you are soon at the end of the list!

Have a look at what you have to do.
Separate it into piles depending on importance.
take each item in the pile and sort it according to the time frame/deadline.
Start at the top and work your way through.

Decide which ones will get you into the most trouble if you don't do them on time.
