I am looking for a place to have a wedding, and we are going to have to pay for this ourselves. So price is definitely an issue, we are to the point of just going to the JP. Help !!

historic buildings/ train stations
parks/ beaches/ forest
museums
bed & breakfast/ inns
if price becomes a real problem, try thinking of which part is more important to you & your fiance.
if the ceremony itself is more important, spend the money on the ceremony location then head to a family member's house for the reception.
if the reception seems more important, do a small ceremony in the courthouse then plan a spectacular reception somewhere special.
hope this helps :D

There are many unique places out there.... Just let your imagination wander. By choosing something out of the ordinary you may even save some money.

Ideas:
Ice Chapel (this is in Canada, not TX - but it is Beautiful)
A local college with a really pretty campus
A small (mostly overlooked) local park (You'd be surprised at how many of these there are)
A family member's house or yard
Local Play House (Live Acting Theatre)
Your high school gym (if you were high school sweethearts) (think about the prom, it wasn't as bad as most people would think when you say gym)
Destination Weddings are a good option for people having very small weddings and paying for it themselves (get the ceremony for free if you buy your honeymoon at many all-inclusive resorts)

Good Luck

My hubby and I decided to have a really small wedding and we were on a budget. We picked one of our favorite restaurants in NYC, which had a wonderful view of the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. We had about 12 people, cost us about $1000 + tip. We just ordered off the regular dinner menu and ordered drinks a la carte. The restaurant had really fantastic desserts so we didn't even bother with a cake - most of our guests split their appetizers and deserts and shared. We told the restaurant in advance of what we were planning to do, and everyone was really helpful - we even had a waitress who was just serving our table. It was great, simple, and really inexpensive. Bought my wedding dress at jcrew.com for $300, and my hubby just wore a nice suit.

A park, a restaurant, a movie theater, someone's home, a hot air balloon, the zoo, an art gallery, a botanical garden...

Try some sort of landscape. Is there a pretty lake, park or garden in the area? I'd try that :) Good Luck!
