Sorry people, my wife is new to Answers and tried to post this question regarding our 4.5 year daughter attending infant school. I think little things like putting them into different groups for reading, isn't it a little early for that?

it is so upsetting to see your child starting nursery as it is,but when you find out that they're being seperated from there new friends and put into groups of children that they haven't bonded with can be just as upsetting.but believe me the teachers know what they're doing.you're child will interact with children she wouldnt normally, and therefore make more friends.at the end of the day your child has been your responsibility for the last 4.5yrs and now you've got to share it with other people at the school.it is really difficult letting your child go,especially if its your first, but its for the best,i used to feel the same with my first child, she was so quiet and timid when she started nursery,i thought she'd never make friends, she will be 11 next week and one of the most popular girls in school.keep your chin up,worrying is all part of parenthood.

Oh your little one has gone to school, so you shed the tears on the first day, missed her terribly. You are bound to question some things that they do at school, but even at 4 1/2 children do have different abilities, it seems to be normal practise with English and Maths to put them into groups some kids can read, write, count and add up before they start primary school, some don't have a clue, and very easy to asses the child ability, so it seems fair that they are given the right help for their abilities. Ask for the school teaching policy, if you are still worried talk to the teacher.

did you have your baby 3 weeks ago. It is normal to feel all kind of things after having a baby. It changes everything you are used to. The expectation of a baby that sleeps non stop and smiles when awake is quickly brought to the real world. It is hard being a parent. From day one. And dont forget your hormones will be all over the place. I cried for months after I gave birth. It will get easier. Trust me it will. You will get into a routine and things will get to normal, as normal as it can with a new baby! good luck

Ah, are you a new father that is amazed at how little your baby does? I have a friend like that, his baby was born three weeks ago and he keeps poking the poor little lad and waking him up in the hope that he'll do something! Give the kiddie some time, you have a wonderful future and one day you'll be hoping that he or she ios back to the way they are now, where you can protect them and keep watch over them twenty four hours a day.

4.5 seems young for reading but i guess different countries do it different. They need to be in groups similar to their reading level. Putting a child who knows nothing in with a child who can read many words will not help the non reader. It will lower the self esteem and make them feel inferior . Be happy that your child is being treated as an individual and not as one of a mass

how are you dissatisfied?
oh, ok, well.....i think it's wonderful that children are being put into a group according to their needs. you could be living in a country like canada where the kids are all lumped together and very often children are left to fend for themselves because the teachers don't have the training ...nor the initiative, to deal with the wide spectrum that is human learning.
we had this problem with my oldest son...he had problems and we were told to pay for private tutoring because they didn't want to know. hence, why we moved to england. now he is thriving, thank god. appreciate what you have....you could have a education system that is a lot worse......it is in canada!

I was exactly the same at that stage. Your whole life has been turned upside down, and there is a third person in the relationship, and it is not quite the joy of parenthood you were dreaming of. A bit like Christmas, I suppose, the anticipation is always better than the actual event.

You need to bond, it takes time.

You had a baby three weeks ago?
This is normal, don't worry. You need to remember that it is okay for you to have these feelings- all your life, you've only had to look after yourself, and now you have this little baby who is completely dependant on you- it's a huge adjustment to make, and you can't possibly like it all the time, even when babies are very much wanted and loved. You have to take time to get used to this.

Before you have kids, its a wonderful dream....when you have them, its everyday life, nothing is as planned, you dont have the time to do it just right, as you imagined, and it seems to be happening, on its own, at a pace, regardless of your wishes, and plans. Its a let down, the reality isnt the dream. They appear, make a mess, grow up, change your relationship with your partner...they are the devils sperm...actually theryre not.....theyre ours, and its this that keeps us loving them, despite the let downs, which, are never ending!

I think they try to move to fast with kids. There was a list for what a kindergardener was supposed to know to go to first and it was extremely long. I think it is wrong to expect the kids to work together in groups but then separte them into different groups because of their levels. I think it is way to young for them to be doing that.
