Sometimes I wonder if he's just really bored. I've tried giving him diet or light cat food but he either pukes it up, begs ten times more, or gets a bloody stool. I've then tried limiting his rations which makes him go crazy with begging! If I give him 'all-u-can-eat' buffet, he poops and pees in the middle of my bed!!!!! What should I do??

Hi everybody---apparent misunderstanding: Echo is potty-trained & I do keep up with his litter. I'm getting some great advice, though, and want to thank you all! ;)

Good point about food quality! A couple of u mentioned he might be alergic to his present food which explains his vomit/stool issues.

Yes, he has been to the vet and got some meds for a viral infection...didn't do a thing.

Also, he's indoor, and yes, very bored. I'll try cutting back on the food and finding ways to exercise him.

Thanks again, everyone!

Thanks intelligentshyunique. In fact he gets wormed yearly, too. That's part of why I've found his behaviors so mysterious.lol

Sounds like you have created a distressed, neurotic cat for yourself. Remember what you put energy into INCREASES so you need to switch away from your negative thinking here. You are focusing on his negative qualities and they will just get worse until you switch your attitude.

If you keep your cat indoors (and IMO you should) he could be bored and maybe could use a cat companion. Don't get a kitten, just another cat around his age would be fine. They will fuss a little bit at first and that will resolve with time.

If your cat is overweight and constantly wanting food it is because you are feeding him an inappropriate food. Cheap grocery store food will never satisfy him nor will "diet or lite" food take weight off of him. You need to get foods, canned and dry, with high quality protein and fillers such as rice, oats, millet, etc. which are not fattening as I suspect the food you are feeding is. It will take a while for him to be more satisfied with the better food and take off weight and it will require patience on your part.

Good foods would be: Innova Evo, Natural Balance (canned and dry), Eagle Pack, Solid Gold etc. You may have to go to a small, owner-operated pet store to find these foods.

he might get the bloody stool if you switch him from his regular diet to a low cal diet too quickly. Gradually incorporate about 1/4 of the new food while giving him alittle less of his old food. over the period of a week switch him over to his new food. Also, don't let him sucker you into feeding him. Put his food down in the morning for about 30 mins then take it up, regardless of if he eats it or not, then put it pack down again in the evening. Again for only 30 mins and pick it up afterwards. He will eat when he gets hungry enough. He should only be getting about 1/3 -1/4 of a cup each meal.

you've got to stop feeding every time he begs. he knows you will do it esp. --don't kid yourself-- he's doing this on purpose. it sounds like he may have a digestive problem. go to a vet asap and take a stool sample with you.or it might be something with his stomach---take a sample of his vomit, too. his stools should not be bloody. if the whining and begging worries you put him in a room or basement with water. or after that leave the house.go some where or eat or visit a friend. tell the vet about poops and pees in your bed. good luck betty boop

Habit! Give the cat food each morning and take the bowl away until late that evening. Normally cats are not very big eaters, but will snack most of the day.

Take him to the vet and get him evaluated. If he's healthy and just being a hog, you need to increase his physical activity and hold the line against his begging. If you get a second cat he can play with, it might help.

As for pooping and peeing in your bed, this should be corrected by booting him out of your bedroom and preferably out of the house. There's no excuse for it except maybe a crappy litter box.

Change the litter, please.

i think that your cat might be given 2 much food. u should limit the food u give him and feed him at certian times of the day. That way he dosnt eat it all and beg 4 more, because thats what some cats do, just like fish, when you give them food, they like 2 finish it all. :) *Good Luck*

1 thing is to never ever give your cat human food. The ammount of fat in human food is proboly equivalent to a bowl of cat food. This can cause extreme obesity for cats and kittens alike.

Indoor cat or outdoor cat? If it's an indoor cat, it's boredom. Try cat toys, or limiting diet don't give in to begging. Outdoor cat, he may have worms.
