First thing is firs. Let her know that once the hair color is on it will have a burning sensation.
Now days, any hair color that is a name brand or by a well known brand is good. Hair color has evolved immensly. Revlon, Garnier, etc.
You basically just follow the directions provided in the kit. Make sure you have a damp wash cloth to wipe away any dye that gets on her skin (forehead, ears, neck). If you don't wipe this away, it will dye her skin that color & take a week to fade away. Just remember that if her hair is blonde, it will absorb the color & be brighter than the color on the box. If it is brunette and your going lighter, leave it on for a good 35-45 minutes, because it will take longer to process. If you take it off too early, it will be more of an orange or gold tint than a blonde or sandy blonde.
Make sure to pull the hair up in a clip on top of the head and apply the color in layers starting at the base of the hairline, because this is always the darkest part of the hair & takes the longest to process. Apply a line of hair color on the underside of the section of hair & on the top side both along the scalp. Then rub in w/ gloves on your hands. Then proceed by taking down another section of hair & clipping the remainder on top of the head. Make sure to take thin sections that go from the left of the scalp to the right. Once you've covered all the hair near the scalp all over the head, apply dye to the length of the hair & rub in w/ gloves (like you would with conditioner). Make sure all hair is saturated. I ALWAYS use the entire bottle to make sure all of the hair is exposed to the dye & will come out without streaks or blotchiness. Then pile the hair on the head & clip w/ a PLASTIC clip, not metal it will affect the chemicals in the dye. You can put a plastic grocery bag on her head & tie the handles to keep dye from getting anywhere else while it's processing. Check after about 15 - 20 min. to make sure the dye looks like it's processing. If your going blonde and it's still looking to have an orange tint, use a blow dryer while keeping the bag on the head and blow hot air into the bag for about 5 mins. This will help the color process better. Especially if it's cold where you're at.
Once the time is up (do not keep color on more than 45 min.) add warm water to the hair & lather like shampoo. Then rinse completely. May take up to 5 or 8 mins. of rinsing to get all excess color out. Use provided conditioner from kit & apply to both the scalp & length of the hair. Leave on 3-5 mins. & rinse completely.
If she's impatient in seeing the results, blow dry the hair only 75% dry (so you don't over-dry the moisture out, the chemicals in the dye will have already made it more dry than normal).
Good Luck!

I've think we've all been there before. Make sure it's not a really drastic change from like brown to blond or blond to red. I really like the Herbel Essences. It smells good so it doesn't make you light headed or anything like that. But they're pretty much all the same.

Make sure you use the gloves, an old shirt and a towel you don't mind ruining.

Separate the hair into about 4 sections. Once down the middle and then once across, in the middle.

When you apply the dye apply to the roots first and work your way to the tips. Be careful, you may get some on you. Those bottles can be tricky. Good luck! I hope this helps. :-)

From my experience, there isn't any one particular one that far exceeds the others. However, semi-permanent is easier on the hair. There are tips on the instructions in the box and I still read them every time in case I forget or the instructions vary with the particular one I use. Just be sure to thoroughly saturate all the hair with color and get more than one box of the same brand and color for longer hair in order to have enough. You don't have to use it if you don't end up needing it but if you don't open it, you should be able to return it with the receipt. Good luck, Mom!

First of all, don't lie to your daughter. Pretending you know about hair color can back fire on you,you sure can ruin hair that way.
Use a demi hair color in light brown or dark blonde, I said dark blonde because the hair color can some times go darker. The demi hair color will fade and plus it does not lighten the hair at all. Permanent hair colors even when going darker lighten the hair as it deposits color at the same time. Make sure to follow the directions with what ever hair color brand you get. Good luck

I've been home dying mine since I was 17 or so. It's okay to make her feel safe in your arms...just tell her that you have NEVER dyed hers before, so you want to do it by the book to make sure she is okay. First, pick a color that is not too much of a change from her natural color. You don't want to attempt to go from dark brunette to blonde without going to a professional. Now, you can select one that is not expensive...like Nice 'N Easy. Read the instructions. They will want you to do an allergy test / results test first. If you want to make sure she will be alright, then do the test. Protect clothing and work from the scalp to the ends of the hair. Time it as the coloring suggests and be sure to wash it and condition it with the packets they enclose or buy special conditioner for color treated hair. Good luck...and enjoy the bonding time with your daughter.

Read the instructions carefully on the kit.
Maybe some of your daughters friends or your friends could help?
I've tried the Garnier and Loreal at home kits. I just followed the instructions given on them.
Oh and your daughter shouldn't condition her hair before she gets her hair dyed. The color result might be uneven if she does.
Decide on how much color she wants to see in her hair and what color. Accordingly work out where to use the color.
If she just wants to see a few strands, just paint the color onto small sections in that area with a brush.
It would be safer though to just get hair some hair mascara. That way she can use the brush to streak whatever areas of her hair she wants. And it washes out easily.

First off are you applying color or doing highlights(pulling it through a cap)? There is a big difference to both of these processes. Then how long is her hair, that would make it a little easier to help guide you, although as a professional stylist I don't like the at home highlights or colors, I would at least like to give you some tips so you don't end up with a big mess that requires color correction and costs far more than one expects.

use a semi-permanent color. ur daughter won't have roots when it starts to grow out, it will slowly start to fade.so there is no commitment and it wont be a head ache to go light again. (u can tell her all this and make believe u already knew, if u want) go to a sally's or any beauty supply they have where u live and ask the person there for help. make sure u know amounts of color/ developer to mix and how long it stay on. tell ur daughter u have done this b4, just not with the brands in that store. mix the color and apply...don't 4get gloves
best of luck

i have done home dying hair before

look to get the color all over the hair you have to dye it in sections
start from the bottom and work your way up

for example grab her whole hair in a ponytale but leave a section down then when you have finish applying in that section- bring more hair down

its easy don't worry
you'll do fine

one tip for you buy two bottles
and make sure she feels her scalp wet

also it might itch a bit while she is waithing but thats normal

ok

good luck

and God bless

try herbal essence or garneir, they smell great and work real good. when your about to dye it make sure you apply a little vaseline around her hairline, behind her ears and the back of her neck so she won't be stained from the dye. part her hair in four sections ( part all the way down in the middle like your going to make pigtails then part across so you have four even sections) start from the back of the head,( never from the top ) start dyeing one section at a time applying to roots first then the rest until all four sections are doing. get a comb to comb all hair back and apply remaining dye on all her hair.

hope u understood. Good Luck!!!
