I think Muslims, or any believers, should have prayer time at work as long as safety is not compromised.
With love in Christ.

The United States constitution guarantees freedom of religion. I feel my religious rights are being trampled on, so I can't advocate trampling on anyone else's, whether I agree with them or not. Freedom is something we must value and uphold in all situations. Muslims should be allowed their prayers and so should any other religious people who want the time.
I also believe that they should either pray on their breaks, or deduct the prayer time from their on the clock time. I don't believe that they should be paid for working while they are not working. If it means staying an extra 15 minutes a day, then that is what they should do.

Can anybody suggest how to deal with the mohommedan who has his/her prayer breaks AND smoking breaks AND works on a production line? They probably waste 45-60 minutes every day and somebody else has to do the work. Mind you, as many of them come from countries that either till have or only recently discontinued slavery, they probably don't mind making others do their work for them.
Let them have the time but dock their pay. That goes for smokers too. Let's see, overtime is usually paid at time and a half (UK) so stop the same rate from their pay. They'll soon stop.
As for the "right" to smoke and pray in work time, I pay staff to work, not smoke and pray. If they want to do these things, it should really be in their own time. I certainly would not provide prayer and smoking rooms - ground space = money!

All people should have the right to practice their religon. Isn't that what freedom of religon is for? Last time I checked the Bill of Rights there it was in black and white. If you don't think muslims should get prayer time at work then people of other religions shouldn't get time to practice their religons, for example there are plenty of Jewish holidays that offices are opened and they are allowed to take an excused day off because it is for a religous matter. Therfore that being said maybe we should take away Christmas for all the Christians/Catholics and so on.... I am sure if you tried to take those rights away from people there would be an uproar like you wouldn't believe. So why can't we just leave well enough alone and follow what the Bill of Rights has set forth for us. The right to practice religon FREELY.

Muslims, Jews, Christians or any person who is suppose to pray at a given time has the right to. Those Muslims doing their prayers is not about hatred and killing but their belief in God. Islam says that if you are even at work you should pray. SO, if you say no for a Muslim to pray, then its like taking your lunch privelages from work. Anyway, Prayers range from 2-5 mins. There is no problem. If there is any person from any religion who needs to pray, I will let them pray and let them take their time....

First of all, only 1 (at most 2) out of 5 prayers fall during office hours. And this can be done during the lunch hours and another one which is usually late afternoon will take 10 minutes tops.
Do you know how many times, smokers take break? Some of them almost every hour go out for smoke!
Let's be tolerant and see things in perspective.

My opinion: Well if Muslims can't have prayer time then no one should be able to take time off work for any religious holidays. It's only fair that every one be treated the same not differently because of their beliefs. If Chrisitians needed to pray or do some other form of worship at a particular time of day and they weren't allowed to take time off everyone would be up in arms.
Also it probably depends on the rules of your particular job about taking time off. Most of them do allow for religious purposes...

Christians get Easter and Christmas off from work and Muslims are expected to take them off too without complaint and yet don't get any of their own holy days off, even Jews have to get special dispensation to get Fridays off early.
Often 'prayer time' is merely deferred from lunch hours and has to be made up for later.

I think they should be allowed as long as it is safe and respectful. As long as they don't think they should get paid to pray. It could cause non Muslims to have to slow down or slack off a bit, just to keep production going smoothly. I'm a carpenter, and if I have to walk around a praying person no problem, but if I'm waiting for him to finish his job to start mine, and he's on the floor for 10 min. I could get edgy. Personally it has never come up. Respect as you like to be respected,we'll be alright.

One would think that if Christians can't Muslims shouldn't be allowed to either, but the powers that be are not threatened by Islamic prayer, they only feel threatened by Christian prayer.
