the freon level is to low, you can refill it yourself or go to a mechanic and have it done. the compressor has a safety feature the will shut it down if the level is to low to avoid damage. that's why it shuts off.

Pressure readings please? Sounds like the expansion valve is clogged. High side reading is high 300+ and low side is vacuum. or less than 10 psi. The switch on the drier is cutting off the compressor.

At least you have a/c
the only time my a/c works is when it's cold outside.
