Are you referring to the continent of North America? If so, then, the Mexicans along with the Canadians are North Americans.

You have a technical point but a very small one at that.
When someone says European, they refer to someone from the continent of Europe and then nationality (Italian, German, etc..) follows.
When someone says American, they refer to someone from the United States. Nobody refers to Canadians or Mexicans are Americans even though they live in North American that is not the common usage of the term.

Depends on what you consider America, if a continent or a country. I look at it as a continent and the United States as a country.

Does that make them United States citizens? No. I took geography class, too, and technically, you're right, a Mexican citizen, a citizen of the country of Mexico, is indeed an 'american'. So's someone from Chile. Both halves of the american continent, north and south, are known as 'the americas'. But, the angle you're trying to work is that frequently,
US citizens are known AS 'americans', which is also technically accurate because the United States of America is located in the north american continent.
Then you get to the issue of borders, and you suddenly realize that Mexico's still trying to sweet-talk/argue/steal its' way into the United States, and you remember that good fences DO make good neighbors, and that Mexico's long, long overdue to stand up and pull its' socks up, and deal with its' own socioeconomic problems instead of having 'move to the United States' as its' practiced domestic policy. Put DOWN the tequila bottle, and slowly back away. Build roads, schools, hospitals, jails, homes, supermarkets, all these and more, and make it happen, and stop trying to whine your way into the United States. We're already in debt, we just flat can't afford to carry Mexico anymore. Time for em to buy like, a cargo boat, or something, sell bell peppers around the world etc.
Adobe's practically free, you can learn how to build with it online, you can reinforce it with stuff to make it earthquake-proof, great insulation, easy to work with, easy to repair, it's good stuff. 110 million people are waiting for YOU to help! LOL

I wonder how many people REALLY abide by the laws who are legal? Everyday people run lights, j-walk or something stupid. I think if you are here and you are causing problems then you need to go home. If you are not causing problems and paying taxes then you can stay. Nobody ever talks s*** about Russians who come over here and get vouchers and sit at home on their a**!!!

Mexico has NOT applied for statehood so they are not Americans from the United States of America.
You could apply for statehood. Nothing is stopping you except your own government. Start a movement. If statehood is granted, you all become US citizens.

They were born in Mexico,
If they want to live in the United States of America, then they can do what every other LEGAL citizen of the United States of America.
Or better yet.
Stay home and fix their own country.
