I have comcast cable with the HDTV upgrade. But when I watch the HDTV channels, they are letterboxed with a black bar on top and bottom of the screen. Shouldn't the HDTV channels take up the full screen?

You have to use the HDMI or DVI or component connection from the box to the tv to get HD.

Check the zoom function in the receiver, make sure the Aspect Ratio is set to Normal.

Do you have a widescreen TV? If not then that it.

Is It connected with the proper cables...HDMI ...DVI....Component?

What are you watching some movies on HD channels are letterboxed. If some are letterboxed and some are not then its the channel. Check ESPN I have never seen it with Letterboxing on the top and bottom.
