My son just turned 21 months old and he is climbing out of his bed every night now. Is it to early to convert his bed into a toddler bed? If so what can I do? I am afraid of him getting hurt when he does it.

Any doctor will tell you that once your child learns how to climb out of his crib that it is time to buy him a toddler bed.

Lucky you at least he waited until he was a bit older. I have an 18 month old daughter and she always tries to climb out and well she's fallen out. She's really tiny so it's so wierd how she does it. This weekend we're buying her a toddler bed already. It's safer than her falling from her crib. She can really hurt herself. Anyway, I think that this is a perfect age for you to go ahead and convert to a toddler bed. It might be hard for him to get used to at first but it's better than him really getting hurt. What we're going to do is buy her a toddler bed and one of those child proof gates. We're going to use the gate at night that way she won't just get up in the middle of the night and wander everywhere. Well I hope everything works out for you!

If he continuously climbs out of his crib then he is at much greater risk of getting hurt in the crib then he would in a toddler bed. So my answer would be to go ahead and get a toddler bed sounds like it's time.

My son started climbing out at 24 months. I don't think it is too soon. Even if it is I would rather move him out too soon then risk him getting hurt or worse! The worst thing that will happen is he won't want to stay in a toddler bed... then just make the room babyproof and put a baby gate up to the door.

No, when they start climbing that's the sign they need a toddler bed. We put our daughter in a toddler bed when she was a little over a year for that reason.

If they can climb out of there crib - it's not safe. They could fall or get hung up on it somehow. However you also must consider safety around the house if they decide to get out of "toddler bed" at night.
Child proof their whole room. At night you can either use one or two baby gates at the door or buy a cheap door at lowes or somewhere, cut it in two, & put two hinges on the lower half of the door & hang it for their bedroom. You can then safely shut their door at night, they cant escape into the house while your asleep but you can still see into their room & "hear" them at night. Hope this helps.

My daughter is 2 years old. He really should not be in a toddler bed yet but its safer than a Crib and he is almost 2 so i think it will be ok
like i said i have a 2 year old daughter and she did the same thing.

if the crib is on the lowest setting then you must turn it into a toddler bed. he will get hurt worse falling from the crib then the bed. Toddler beds have a guard rail...my son is the same way and heis only 19 months. i udnerstand your concern

It is better for them to be in a toddler or twin bed with side rails. At least with a toddler bed if they fall out it is a short fall. You can always put pillows or large stuffed animals on the floor to cushion them. It is much more dangerous for them to fall from the top rail of the crib.
