Actually it's not a stupid question. Different languages actually have different types of profanity. In English, profane words tend to focus on sex and bodily functions, while in French they focus around religious (particularly Catholic) symbols. The common English swear words are generally thought to have originated centuries ago, probably from Old English, Old Norse, and Old Low German (which evolved into Dutch and Flemish).

I'm not really sure about all the other curse words but I know that the F word comes from the acronym Fornication Under Control of King, meaning that the soldiers could obligate your wife or daughter to have sex with them while they were quartered at your house during a war.
